Pune rocks when it comes to weekend gateways....
However except roads like lavasa and amby valley; no other is recomended to enjoy high speed corners. I can tell you n number of offroad short rides (around 200Kms) around Pune. All ghtas (Tamhini, Varandha etc) are in broken conditions throughout the year but no doubt ride is enjoyable. Try to explore Konkan region via all these Ghats.... 1. Tamhini (from Pune - Paud) 2. Varandha (From Pune via NH-4) 3. Kumbharli (From Karad via NH-4) 4. Fonda (From Kolhapur via NH-4) 5. GaganBawada (From Kolhapur via NH-4) 6. BhuiBawada (From Kolhapur via NH-4) There are good places to explore around Satara as well. Around Pune, one day short rides could be - 1. Lavasa (and Warasgaon - Lavasa) 2. Amby Valley 3. Pabe Ghat - Torna - Rajgad - Kadve Ghat 4. Panshet - Ghol 5. Mulshi - Lonavala 6. Tamhini - Lonavala (Via Ghangad - Telbaila - Amby Valley) 7. Paud - Lonavala (Via Tung-Tikona) 8. Mahabaleshwar (Via NH-4)

They are all about supercool cornering! ![]() If you want to test top speed, NH4 is your best bet! ![]() I've touched max 147kmph on my 220 on the kamshet-lonavla NH4 patch. |

The best way to reach Amby Valley is from NH4, take the NH4 from Pune (u can start from pune station and directly take the road which goes through khadki-nigdi-akurdi-Dehu Road and so on. This IS the NH4 or often now known as Old Mumbai Poona Highway). Reach Lonavala and then ask anyone directions to Bushi Dam. The road which will take you to Bushi dam climbs and winds its way up the mountains right up to Amby Valley. There are i think a couple of turns on the way but you keep going straight on the road. The last point that comes is Lion point (or Tiger point! I forget which one) beyond that no point, no public, just you and your bike right up to Amby Valley! Oh and btw the roads are absolutely deserted and amazing and the Amby Valley is a long way from Lonavala so its a great ride. p.s. I had done this in my car on a weekday, I feel going to Lonavala on a weekend is stupid, I was once stuck in Lonavala weekend traffic jam for 4 hours! Also about Hinjewadi Road I have no idea unless u mean taking that road where it meets the NH4 beyond Akurdi. Also Amby Valley road is all about turns, if u try high speed there u will fly off the mountain and land in Khopoli Gaon below. Ride safe buddy! Take exact directions from google maps! |
