Delhi to Dhanaulti : Aug 23rd-24th 2008
The seven guys on the ride:
Photos: Sundeep Gajjar (Sunny) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Trip log by Manan (TVS RTR) It was the 5:00am of 23rd August,08 and I was at Manav’s place to pick him up for our well planned trip to Dhanaulti. Manav has come specially for this trip from Nainital to Delhi. After picking him up we went to Castrol Bike zone in Ghaziabad, where we all were warmly welcomed by Bike Zone staff and not to mention the great gentleman Rohit Agarwal (the owner of that Bike Zone). We all gathered there and were also joined by Sunil G, who came there to see us off. After having our morning’s first light breakfast, we all flagged ourselves off for the trip at 6:30am, and as decided we all started the ride in a particular pattern where no one was allowed to overtake the other person. And with no doubt it went off really well. Just after crossing ModiNagar, Manav decided to get his tank filled-up with fuel. Now, from here when we started if felt as if we are riding in the month of December, as there was so much Fog that we got to see on route of Ghaziabad to Meerut (at some places), I mean it. Leaving all that behind we headed to our first official stoppage. Cheetal: Yes this was our first stoppage of the trip to have some heavy breakfast. We all stopped here and had some real good parathas with curd. While others were busy ordering something more for themselves, Me and Old Fox went to tuneup my bike which was causing little bit of problem. Reaching there I realized that my Right Rear indicator is broken and hanging on its neck, thanks to those awesome potholed roads on NH-58 (well no issues with the TVS quality, it was already broken, I just fixed it with Quickfix ). Well after tuning my bike we also joined rest of the group and had some good chit chat session and headed to MujaffarNagar.Ahead of Cheetal: Now as we are filled our stomachs with those uuuummm feeling parathas, we started again towards the destination. After crossing all the hurdles ahead in our route (yes that route itself was a kind of hurdle)and meeting some strange wanna-be Rossi’s we again decided to take a halt at somewhere near to Mujaffarnagar, where we all had tea and some chit chat and gyan session. Now this was the right place and time to stop as this has proven lucky to Vrooooom. He got some news which made him so happy that he announced dinner for that night on him. We all than happily moved towards Dehradun from there. Dehradoon and hills: At Dehradun we all decided to re-fuel our machines and that’s where one very exited guy approached Vrooooom and asked “Bhaiya aap log yaha kya abhi stunts karoge??” (Brother are you guys going to do some stunts here?), it was quite innocent from his side. May be he got that impression from our dressings and surely by looking at Vrooom’s comet. Sunny very requestingly said “No! Not at all”. Here comes the next bombing question from his side “Oh! To aaplog race karogey??” (Oh! You guys’ll do race here?), we all decided to move away from there before any other question comes or any other wanna be Rossi join us. As we moved out of Dehradun, heading towards our next destination which passes by Manali, we all suddenly entered the land of beautiful landscapes and lush green mountains, yes because of rain the roads were not in that good condition but still it was a great experience riding in there. Before we all could enter those curvy mountain roads, Sunny decided to swap his machine with Vrooom, to test its top speed. After that successful test and just before the entry of those curves, they swap again and moved for the ride. After crossing some good distance in those beautiful hills we saw a waterfall on the road and stopped there, somehow Sunny decided to put his bike under that and started taking pics of it, well poor machine after all that exhaustive ride in the hills, plains and those uneven roads, it suddenly got to face that chilly cold water of waterfall, which has turned it blind (splashed headlight bulb). Looking at all of us a local news channel guys stopped by as far as I remember it was M1H Channel, and then they took the interview of Sunny and Manav. After all those scenic views and awesome curves we again stopped at a small Dhaba in a lonely village, just 30kms before Dhanaulti. It was something that we really liked. In that chilly breeze and under open sky, we all were having nice hot tea with pakodas. Wollah! It was simply awesome. In Dhanaulti: By the god’s grace till now we haven’t faced the slaps of rain which was damn expected. But then god started playing with us and we faced some sudden surprises of rain in patches, and how surprising it was that it happened just 15-20 kms away from our destination. Time when we reached Dhanaulti, it was so cloudy that we could hardly see on road. But after all those wet sessions we reached hotel safely, and had some little rest. Just when we all got freshen up, we looked out of window and found that there is no clue of rain outside now, as if god has listened to our wish. We all decided to go out to take some pics and have some snacks, and then we did some good long photography session. It’s 8:30pm now we all went back to our rooms, some took shower and some just laid down and then at 9:00 we came down for the dinner. As promised dinner was on Vrooom, and he has already made the arrangements by ordering some good chicken and dal-roti for all. Oh that was a long dinner, it felt as if we are not having our dinner but it’s a round table conference. Next Day We all woke up and gathered at around 8:00am, and discussed our previous day, where Sunny was still sleepy, later got to know he slept quite late at 3:00am (poor Sunny), thanks to the partner’s snores. As it is last night the photographer in us was awakened, so we all started our photography session once again and in pursuit of some great shots we entered into the ECO Park and yes we really got some great shots there. Everybody has used their skills to the max, where Manav have used his skills in smoking cigarettes. It was a real great learning session for me and some good shots for others, after spending around 1 hour there we all decided to head back to hotel as we also had to start back. We all headed back to our rooms packed our stuffs and came down for Breakfast, as we all were wet last evening, we utilized that breakfast time in drying our stuff in sunlight. Soon we all started back to Delhi, as advised by the locals we took the different route while coming back we come Via Chamba. While coming back we have enjoyed the ride to its max, atleast I enjoyed it as I was able to ride easily on dowhills. Doing all those leaning and bending on those twisty curves, we reached Chamba and had some tea (For Manav it was Chambal Ghati) . Now from here we swinged back to home with some number of stoppages for photography and reached Haridwar. At Haridwar Manav took a different route as he had to go back to Nainital, and we all headed ahead. Soon we all decided to stop by as it was out lunch time by now and we chose one Dhaba and parked our bikes there as if it was XBHP Dhaba meet. Soon there was some mob started gathering to see the bikes specially Vroom’s comet as it was the odd one out. There again we had some good heavy lunch and then headed over. After having our lunch we started again, however me (Manan),Sunny and Old_Fox stopped somewhere before Bilaspur, to get Sunny’s Karizma’s headlight bulb changed (Thanks to that Waterfall bath). Well soon we realized that it was getting dark and Sunny’s Karizma was again running on blind headlight. We had a stop at Cheetal to have something to eat. Here we decided that Me and Sunny will stay back at Sunny’s in laws’ place which was just 10-15 kms ahead for the night and will start over again next morning. To my surprise I got to see one very good Mall in that area “The Milange”, and to more of my surprise just behind it there was one very good society as well where we stopped for that night. Next morning we started at 9:00am and reached Ghaziabad by 10:30am where both got our bike serviced and headed back to our works. It was one of those trips where you get to learn a lot, specially for those who were riding in group for the first time on such a long trip and also for those who have some serious interest on Photography (Sunny and Old_Fox you guys have some real good sense of Photography! Kudos !J). Hope to plan such meet again and again over the period of time. ![]() Manan's RTR getting final checks in the Ghaziabad BikeZone ![]() L-R: Sunilg, Old Fox, Manav, Muks, Manan, Sunny, Ashish (Vrooooom), Buddy ![]() A cozy tea session at the Ghaziabad BikeZone ![]() Manan with Rohit (Bikezone owner) ![]() Pit Stop ![]() In Dehradun ![]() In Dehradun ![]() A local news channel wanted our bytes on how we felt in the mountains ![]() So Manav decided to show him practically how he felt... ![]() The Bike under a waterfall on the road, en route Mussoorie ![]() Vrooooom on the Comet in the front, Manan on his heels on the RTR ![]() Manav in the foreground, neat Mussoorie ![]() Tea Pit Stop ![]() Pristine beauty relatively near to Delhi, Dhanolti ![]() Eco Park, Dhanolti ![]() Eco Park, Dhanolti ![]() Eco Park, Dhanolti ![]() Eco Park, Dhanolti ![]() Dusk in Dhanolti ![]() Our Hotel in the Background ![]() Manan says its a nice place ![]() Old Fox doing reconnaissance ![]() Thats Dehradun as seen from our hotel room using a 200mm F4 lens in the night ![]() Dehradun spied again from Dhanolti ![]() In the morning ![]() Morning, getting ready to leave ![]() Holding for dear life, a morning dew drop ![]() Sneak Peak of the Himalayas ![]() ![]() The two mighty warriors in the group ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Eco Park ![]() Eco Park ![]() Eco Park ![]() Eco Park ![]() Eco Park, Blue Skies ![]() Eco Park ![]() Eco Park ![]() To Delhi ![]() Manav Relaxing with a bovine in the background ![]() Manan and Manav putting up a free show ![]() The steppes ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Old Fox, dont go by the name ![]() ![]() Dhanolti Last edited by MG; 09-22-2008 at 02:13 AM. |

Nice write-up. It seems you had 3 breakfasts the same day! Then you rode through pothole ridden roads which broke a quick-fix stuck indicators, rode through fog in August in Meerut... nice to read through.
Sunny could not resist the Comet. Its a nice bike after all! Enjoyed the brilliant HDRs from Sunny. Thanks guys.
