Exclamation Calcutta - Bangalore (4000kms)

Hi guys my name is Gibran. I’m planning to do Calcutta - Bangalore & back on my R15.
2 R15’s and 1 Karizma were suppose to do this ride but they are not serious enough. So I need suggestions regarding routes, road conditions, unsafe roads and stopovers.
I’m planning to do it as fast as possible and enjoy it at the same time but won’t be doing any night riding.

I got inspired by this ride my first long ride in R15 Chennai - Kolkata - Patna 2257 km in 2 1/2 days

Q1. Currently I’m using Nokia n96 is it possible to get GPS software on my mobile not nokia maps something like mapmyindia (FREE) without the help of GPRS. If yes please email me the software at mr.gibran@gmail.com.
I recently have been using and trying Google maps on my cell works gr8 sometimes but not up to the mark (with GPRS)

Q2. Route is as follows

Day 1 Kolkata – Bhubaneswar (455kms approx)
Day 2 Bhubaneswar – Vizag (425kms approx)
Day 3 will stay @Vizag
Day 4 Vizag – Bangalore (1100kms approx) If possible otherwise will halt at Nellore

See if anyone knows of cheap hotels at Bhubaneswar, Vizag, Nellore and Bangalore with safe parking.

As far as I have planned will be taking this route .:NHAI:.Completed Stretches on Golden Quadrilateral up to Nellore - Nayudupita – then move to NH4 towards Bangalore (Please suggest)

http://maps.google.co.in/maps/ms?hl=...8,0.07699&z=14

Q3. Things to be carried:
Camera (not much of a photographer but will try)
Clutch and accelerator cable
Rear brake pad
A big waterproof bag with bungee cord which can be wrapped around my rear seat (duck back)
Small back pack
Rain coat (duck back)
Gloves
Extra low beam bulb
Engine oil (MOTUL 300v)
Oil seals
Soap strips
Puncture repair kit (never used it before)
Full-face helmet
1 Vodaphone & Airtel connection
Mobile and charger
Riding Jacket
Basic medicines (Apollo first aid kit)
Spark Plug (Should I carry iridium plug)
Flask (water)
Chain lube (Motul)
Tool kit (never had the chance to use it )
Air pump
Maps (should i carry maps)

Is anything else needed??? Or even this is too much

Q4. As I’ll be strapping the bag with bungee cord on the rear seat the bungee will rub against the rear panels resulting in marks or worse. What should I do regarding this

Ps: I have been planning for two weeks now so whatever I researched I kept typing in Microsoft word hence the copy paste.
I haven’t done anything like this before so every suggestion is important for me.

Thanks a ton guys I really appreciate it

In answer to the GPS question, there is a good alternative that requires you to download Yahoo India Maps offline and store in the cell's card. See this post:
Offline Maps on GPS Phones.

In Bhubaneswar, you can hole up in any one of the hotels near the station. Praveen KM stayed at Hotel Bhubaneswar, coz it had got secured parking. For Vizag, opt for a sea facing hotel, else you won't be able to enjoy the panoramic view. Also, enter Vizag through the marine drive instead of the NH. That was the most refreshing part of mour ride after a day of dull roads.

Try Hotel Meghalaya in Vizag. Rather than two GSM connections, try and get a Reliance CDMA connection. Works almost everywhere, though it shouldn't be a problem in your case since you are not leaving the main highways. Instead of soap strips carry waterless Hands Wash (the name is skipping my mind). A small bottle costs about 10 bucks and you don't need any water to clean your hands of bacteria etc.

For bungee cords take some thick polythene and place it below where the bungee cord touches the bike's body.

I am also not really sure about using GPS or maps in India when you just sticking to the main highways and there are hundreds of people to ask on the road. (The best method, I call them Bio GPSes ).

Good luck with your trip.

^^ Try running the .jar file directly. Or maybe use an older version. Worked for me. Once installed, you'll need to change access permissions for the app using application manager.

Hey Gibran, I have both Mapmyindia and Satguide softwares on my PDA but have never been able to learn how to use them? Well Satguide requires key but Mapmyindia is freeware and the version is
Application : v.32.92
Database: KA v.5.7.6 ADBP MAPMYINDIA 8.4
Map Display : v.3.1
Languages : v.28.c.

Please let me know if this helps you. I will send the files across to ur mail ID

Can do it in evening only bcos i am in office right now?
