Default Will a Cast Iron Engine withstand a Saddle Sore

Guys

Just to ask you guys (Experts) to check if a Cast Iron Engine (Obviously a RE) can withstand a Saddle Sore, if yes what would be the preparations and stuff to carry, am sure its not the same as any other normal engines.

Your suggestions & inputs

As you long as you don't rip it and keep the max speed at 85kmph, you should do just fine. But 1600 kms in 24 hours will be a stretch - the machine is not meant for that kind of stuff, it is more happy just puttering along leisurely.

Even if you manage an average speed of 60, you will still not be able to complete 1600 km. I have covered distances of 450-500 in a day on an CI 350, but it takes around 9-11 hours, depending on the route/traffic.

+1

Ramesh, you need to keep an average speed of 72 Kmph for over 23 hours considering the 1 hour for buffer & fuel breaks.

it would be calling it very close. Because you would have to keep the engine at its peak for a long period of time. Maybe if you had a 500CI, it wouldve been easier.

Other option is to get a bigger primary sprocket for the bike, so that for a given speed, your engine rpm will be lower, and cruising will be easier also.

Yes, it is possible.

Back in 2005, I wasn't aware of IBA and their rides, on my 4sp Electra 350, I did Bangalore(timed from The Reliance pump before the Neelmangala Toll Plaza) to Pune ~815km's , in 12hrs and few minutes. No stops, except for fuel stops.

Before that, in 2004 I also rode the bike from Ajmer to Pune ~1100km's in ~22hrs.

Great! But that's still an average speed of 54 kmph!

That seems to be option that might make it possible.

That's some good speed. That stretch has sparse traffic so that's a good way to try a saddlesore out. But you did 800 kms in 12 hours, and our guy has to exactly double that. So that's practically no sleep at all, non-stop riding for 24 hours!

your chances of completing the saddle sore without the bike breaking down will be less than 50% ON A BULLET.

but if you pull it through you may be the first Indian to do it on an RE.

all the thrills in life comes in taking chances... go for it buddy
