Default Protective Coatings

Guys as we'll know the rains are nearing and I want to protect my bike by using anything but that ugly looking antirust liquid. How effective is a Teflon Coat (Epcoat)?? I have also heard it gives a long lasting gloss to the bike and prevents color fading and works as a chrome polish as well.

Please send ur recomendations.............

Thanks DARIUS [8D]

hi there darius,
teflon coating is no substitute for anti-rust. Teflon coating is done only for the paint to prevent it from fading and also removes minor scratches. Instead of spending 800-1000 bucks for teflon coating i suggest u get some good polishes and polish ur bike regularly. Teflon coating doesnt last for long.
As for the rains, if u dont want to put anti-rust on your bike, see to it that u keep ur bike in a dry place or cover it. Also, wipe the bike with a dry cloth after a ride in the rain. There are more chances of the rim getting rusted. try this out. Tape the complete rim with a transparent tape(a good quality tape thats water resistant). That way the rim doesnt get wet and prevents rusting. Thats what i had done for my bike 2 yrs back. It works. No rust at all. And dont let muck collect anywhere. Wash the underside regularly.

teflon coating is good for few months to max 1 yr ... depending on how much care u take of ur bike....Also u need to get the coating done properly. Not everyone does the coating properly.
