Well the winding part is as described below. Firstly you will have to remove the old coil windings and re-wind the coil using a wire of thicker gauge. Thicker wire makes the alternator generate higher power. That is the basic concept. A new regulator is needed as the old one can not handle the increased power delivery. We need to create one using various electronic components. That is the basic idea. Want to create one?

Transformer winding wires are used. They already have a layer of insulation over the copper wire. So, we just need to wind them around the stator plate.
Yeah, I am assamese.

Just went through all 52 pages of this thread. Phew ! However I wasnt able to clear my doubts which I had when I started reading this thread. Apologies in advance for the large number of questions
My ride R15 My requirements I dont ride too much in the nights, if I do & its a well lit road I tend to ride with the pilot lamps on. If the road isnt that well lit, then I switch to low beam and it isnt that often that I use high beam. Nonetheless I do know that the lighting on the R15 is piss poor & I do not want to be stuck riding slowly because of the weak lighting if the situation arises that I have to do a bit of night riding (it has happened in the past). So I want to upgrade my lights. My questions 1. Is it possible to improve the (marginal) lighting of the pilot lamps by changing them ? If so is there any model in particular that I can change it to ? Asking more out of curiousity. 2. Based on my requirement & what I have read over 52 pages I feel an Osram NB is something that I am looking for. Is it possible to fit it on the R15 ? 3. If 2 is a yes, is it a straight fit or does anything else need to be done ? 4. If not the Osram NB then what else is present in the market for the R15 ? 5. Will fitting an Osram NB or a Philips light or an HID null the warranty provided by Yamaha ? 6. Are there any potential drawbacks of using a NB on the R15 ? 7. Where do guys in Blore get the fitting of the lights done ? Any reputed mechanic / place ? Thanks in advance guys. |

@neil
LEDs can be brighter while using less power, I've seen pics someplace, maybe orkut , of R15s with LED pilots . Osram Nighbreaker is a plug and play fit , but it is 60/55W against the stock 35/35W . The R15's 4AH battery does raise questions about how much current it can reliably run for 60W bulbs , and yes this will void your warranty. Potential drawback aside from drained battery is the added heat may damage your reflector & lens over some time - not certain, but possible .

Me, My Apache and the Road

Got my bikes stator re winded. For rewinding purpose I picked up a 8 pole stator from Apache RTR and got it rewinded...
Could not change the RR unit as i ran sort of time ... Running on stock RR Unit. But now the problem is that it is smoking bulbs like anything …. Already smoked 1 35/35, 2 60/55 and 1 100/90 Hella bulb ![]() ![]() … It is smoking 60/55 bulbs at around 3000 RPM and 100/90 Bulbs at 4.3 RPM... ![]() ![]() ![]() Is there any retrofitting unit regulator upgrade available ![]() ![]() … ? I have heard someone being advised that using a regulator / rectifier unit from a three wheeler would resolve this type of issues but not sure ... Need advise..

^^ if you can build your own RR unit, or can get someone to do it, I have a custom RR unit circuit which I used with my rewinded stator. Costs around 100 bucks for the components.
Your RR unit is gone, possibly due to overloading due to the stator. Keep going like this and you will explode the battery, starter relays and everything. Have you checked the voltage at the battery when the bike is ON and at around 4k rpm? One thing, can you please tell me what gauge wire was used in the rewinding??? And if possible, number of turns per pole?
