1st/2nd Gen Unicorn has 42T rear and 15T front. You wont get rear sprocket as spare, you gotta buy full kit which will cost around 800rs.

Default FZ16 sprocketing

Hi all,

I've been looking for a while to gear up my FZ since it's standard gearing is quite low. I always feel I'm in 4th gear when I'm in 5th!

I was hoping to change the front to 15T or the rear to 38T. Standard are 14/40.

A mech had a look at the front sprocket and he's not sure a 15T sprocket would fit in the available space.

Has anybody here already tried other options? Does anyone have any ideas?

@shreeni
do you know what pitch chain the FZ uses? Is there anyway to find out without having to measure with a vernier?

Default Help needed in Sprocketing my Karizma

I was thinking abt doing sprocketing in my Karizma . I am basically a tourer and like to keep my bike at higher Rpms /speeds continuously long hours a day. Can any one tell me your experience with sproketing?
is the difference noticable? please note that other than iridium spark plug and Michelin M 45 i idnt doen any other modifications. How much sprocketign will cost me ? i am planning to reduce rear by two teeths and no change in front sprocket.

so what will be total cost for this?
SHould i buy a new chain ? or stock chain will do ? or of not which chain and which bikes sprocket should i buy ?
will the top end increase noticable?
did your accelration decreased much ?
any difference in mileage?

Please advice..

I am not sure what pitch chain FZ has but have a simple solution for you.

If the chain pitch is 520 i.e like Karizma, Pulsar 200,220,180(UG4) then you can opt for P200 rear (38T), P220 DTSi (36T), P220 DTS Fi (37T).

If the chain pitch is smaller as in Unicorn and other bikes then you can opt HH Ambition (38T)

Thou am not sure about fitting on sprocket hub but customizing the holes wont be a problem.

Thanks! I hadn't realised that those bikes have such size sprockets. Will definitely try them as soon as the next service is done.

Not yet done. I'm planning on getting the next free service done next week. I want to do a "before and after" test with the sprockets.

I measured the pitch with a simple ruler and I found it to be 12,5 mm. This means that the chain is either a 425 or a 428 (the most common size for small Indian bikes). I think I will try a 15T front sprocket or a 38T rear sprocket.

I will report back here once it's done.

Hey can anyone tell whats the rear sprocket teeth number of Suzuki Shaolin ?????

Also theres another problem,u may find certain tooth sprockets in the market but that sprocket has to fit ur rear wheel.Sometimes the screw drills are bigger and they are not centred correctly. Is it possible to weld and redrill the sprockets while reboring it for the centre??
