Default New Bike Help - Totally Confused

Hello Xbhp Friends,

I have been regular reader of Xbhp forums for last 2 years, and this is my first post on this website and i am sure i won't be disappointed.

I am looking to buy a new bike something more powerful than 150cc (i already owned Pulsar 150 DTSi for 2 years) and currently I am having below choices as per my budget.

Pulsar 180 / 220
Apache 160 / 180
Karizma ZMR (No ZMA)

My biking history till date is, I first owned Yamaha YBX which i loved and served me for 6 years without any trouble except regular servicing, Then i bought Pulsar 150 DTSi which was good and i owned it for 2 years then due to financial crises i had to sell it and bought Second hand Libero which is with me and serving good, but now i need reasonable powerful bike.

My requirements and driving is like below.

I mostly use it to go office which is 8 kms away from home in Ahmedabad city traffic conditions and when i come back its 2.00am (night duty) and i get free roads, my priorities are bike should be reliable and good to serve around 3-4 years. returns 45-50 milage.

I go long trips once in 2-3 months (did A'bad to Mt. Abu and A'bad to Saputara on my pulsar) and bike should be confirtable for such once in a while long rides.

I test rode Pulsar 180 and Apache, I liked them both only problem i have been looking is as you all guys know, Pulsar is said to be returning problems after 2-3 years of purchasing and Apache is called Vibrator (I love to drive 70-80 on highway and 55-65 in city free roads which are range for apache to vibrate.. correct me if i am wrong)

Karizma is not available in our city for test ride, but i feel its bulky for city ride, little less milage (i can bare if its overall good performer)

any idea, can you guys help me, if any information required from my end, i can provide, but i need to buy new bike little quickly

Thanks in advance.

Did you consider the YAMAHA FZ series. It is a very capable commuter. You get Ample pickup to slice thru traffic in the City, amazing styling, and bullet proof YAMAHA reliability.

Manoj,

here are my questions

Why no Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki in your list as they are good quality bikes with decent mileage ?

45 to 50 mileage then get back to old 150 cc category brother because 180 cc max squeeze out mileage is around 45 only

but unicorn and GS150R are good at giving you around 55 kmpl

and finally whats your budget

this is just for your info

i am using GS150R Getting 52 to 55 kmpl in bangalore city traffic, its good and comfortable one for long rides as well as city ride

just test drive the dazzler or unicorn or GS150R or FZ (fz mileage is the bit low)

Default My Answers

@yamahatrooper
Well, My initial thought is to go something more than 150cc, but your question made me think so i am going to test drive FZ also, main reason is i owned Yamaha YBX and i know the quality you are talking about, only thing bothers me about yamaha is i heard it takes lots of efforts to go above 90 on it how's stability at around 90-100 on highway? did you try it because on test drive i won't be able to do that.

@madhav krishna
R15 is suberb bike, i took test drive too but i don't think i want to spend that much money, my budget is around 80-85K so if i prefer to stretch the budget i would rather wait for Honda CBR 250 but i don't think i want to do that.

@MSN1
Only reason honda, yamaha, suzuki are not in list because i was considering something more powerful than 150cc

others answers are given above.

but here i would definitely give FZ a try

The ZMA though dated, would be a boon on the highway, and the headlight is decently powerful for night riding as well.

But in the mileage aspect it wont deliver, but refinement, smoothness and comfort, its an all rounder.

I would also suggest the FZ series as an alternate, good city bikes, and decent on the highway as well.

@mustmanoj - Before I go on let me tell you that I am a very satisfied FZ owner since Jun 2009. And that bike's been a sweetheart, just the right tool for a city run about and office commute. It s powerful enuff to smoke out any of the similar capacity bikes within the city due to it's brilliant gear ratios but it's true that due to same gear ratios the bike struggles past 90 kmph not taht it does not make those speeds but yes it is a bit of an effort to get the bike in 3 digit speeds. But then again how often do you cross 100 kmph on a daily commute basis right! And about it's high speed stability the FZ is awesome it's very well planted on the road and is not one bit scary at speed of 90+ very confidence inspiring. And you ve owned a YBX so you know the YAMAHA quality and reliability. Please do consider the FZ and Lord of the streets is what it is. And to top it all off the styling

P220 is totally power biased machine but will disppoint you in mileage and reliability
Apache rtr 160/180- looks sexy and good performance handling best in class mileage
Karizma ZMR-Its out of your budget... Why have you listed it?
yamaha fz-Great looks, performs ok(relative to rtr and 220),yamaha reliability and is a fun commuter....

I would recommend you go for apache rtr 180 it best meets your needs.....
