question : STD vs Electra?
i like: std why:
Why electra:
Hi guys, would like to have your inputs regarding the above decision .. let me simplify. I want the standard, im only worried if it would be annoying to handle the heavy bull without disk brakes in th city's stop n go traffic, specially after my p180 ug4. Also i had a discover with drum brakes long back after the bike got old, the front brake wouldn't make the bike stop immediately during panic braking, hence my worry about the standard P.S. - also would like to know where would be the best place to sell my p180 ug4 that completes a year in feb 2011. will have clocked 13k kms by feb. hasnt met with an accident even once, was pushed off the stand once by a car. has minor scratches as a result of that. have been personally supervising all servicings since day one. have used motul 5100 everytime after 3rd service. change oil once every 2500kms. so all in all its in awesome shape

I am in a similar situation as you. I like the Std Bullet. But the Electra has better features - Disc brake and Gas Shocks. There are 2 routes: a. Buy a Std 350 and add disk brakes and gas shocks. * Cost of Std = 1,03,000 (bangalore) * Cost of Disk = 8000 * Cost of Gas shocks = ? b. Buy an Electra and change parts to Std 350. * Cost of Electra = 1,16,500 (Bangalore) * Cost of front and rear mudguards for Std. = ? [NOTE: changing the front mudguard is not trivial as it has a special fit with the fork. So should the fork be changed as well; this is what the dealer at Teknik motors (B'lore) told me.) * Cost of new tank (if you want the Std's tank with gold pinstripes) = 5,000 * Cost of air-filer cover = ? All in all, I think it is cheaper to make a Std 350 look like an Electra. Can you drop by and check if Front Disk brakes can be installed onto the front wheel of a STANDARD? I will also do so from my side. SELLING PULSAR: Try SULEKHA Classifieds or QUIKR. XBHP classifieds. Unless you need the cash, I believe you need to keep the Pulsar till you become comfortable with the Bullet's quirks. UPDATE: I spoke with RE Brand Store JAYANAGAR (Bangalore). 1. Rear gas shocks cost 1,500-1,700 for the pair. 2. Front disk brake can be fitted to a Standard model. Cost is 8,000 - 10,000. 3. I didn't check on adding Electric starter. * All fitting will be done after registration of bike and take 2-3 days. * no buy back scheme. You need to pay for the additional items and take back home the original drum brake and non-gas shocks. Last edited by rapperswil; 02-02-2011 at 04:18 PM. Reason: Additional details |

i will inquire about the front disk setup cost etc..i had asked earlier , they had said it can be done though i didn't ask about costs involved. Not thinking about doing it for some time now.. since i wont have the money to do that :P and yes i have to sell my pulsar to arrange the remaining amount for purchasing the STD will let you know

That was in the Past! the Pre 2010 Electras came with Electronic ingition while the standard had CB points. That was the distinguishing factor then. But now both the STD 350 and the Electra share the same Engine, Ignition etc. But the STD 350 of today does not come with Disk Brakes and Self start whilst the Electras have them both. If you ask me go for neither cos the UCE 350 engine sucks, the bike lacks the bullet feel and vibrates and clatters a lot in the 60 kmph - 75 kmph range. Best bet to get a "real bullet" today would be to look out for a good used Cast Iron engined bullet especially the ones produced between 2001 - 2005. Or even the AVL 350 i.e. Machismo Thunderbird from that period.

YamahaTrooper,
I'll have to disagree with you there. Quote:
2. I have been reading reviews of the UCE engine in many forums and magazines both in UK and US. While all of them agree that there are vibrations on the Bullet, their opinion seems to be that it has improved in the right direction. Perhaps the Std and Electra do not come with superior bushes that could damp vibes from the engine to the frame, that the Classics have, but it is not the engine at fault here. The engine revision was long due from RE. HD uses the older separate construction engine but have improved their quality levels, so though we have a vintage design, it is put together very well. Perhaps RE chould have done so too. The thumb rule to choosing whether or not to buy Bullets of vintage is to decide it you like riding or tinkering with the bike. The UCE lets you ride more and tinker less. Last edited by rapperswil; 02-03-2011 at 07:40 PM. |
