Default A new bike within 80-120K

Guys,

I own a Splendor since last 8 years now. I have always been a car fanatic and a die hard FIAT fan. I own Punto as of now and am planning to upgrade my Splendor. Since we have so many bikes in the market, and as I am not much a biker, would like to know your inputs for selecting an upgrade for my Splendor.

Following are the pointers:
1. Budget is max 1.2L that too after a stretch
2. Should suit my stature: 5'5 height and 63KG weight.
3. Mainly this would be my weekend bike but once a while to office (25 km round trip)
4. I have a Scooty pep so that would be used to run daily errands if any
5. Pillion comfort is NOT an utmost criterion
6. The servicing cost should not rival my car servicing cost
7. A descent FE would do fine, since it wont be used too much
8. Would like to have trouble free ownership

I am a bit confused since I like all kinds of bikes: Cruiser, Sporty and Street. I have short listed: FZ16, R15, Avenger and Duke. Duke would be a bit stretch for me but I liked it review here on XBhp. I loved the R15 design like hell. A clean design I would say. The FZ16 makes a lot of sense on the pricing front.

Please let me know your inputs, specially on which would suit my physical appearance.

Since it is going to be a weekend only bike, there are a couple of things that you will need to consider.

I'm not sure whether you like to carve corners or cruise comfortably with a pillion. If cruising alone or occasionally with a pillion is what you do, the Avenger will fit your requirements.

If you are a cornering junkie, I would pin the R15 as the possible bike for you.

A couple of other suggestions: Check the Honda Dazzler and the Suzuki GS150R. Both are competent machines and can hold their own in the city as well as the highway. If you have the time to wait, you can also try the new Pulsar 200 NS. All the reviews have been positive...it's never bad to have too many options

Either way, you should take a long test ride of any bike that you finalize before you write your cheque.

you have already nailed it down pretty well.. These are the only bikes apart from P220 which will give you a distinct riding pleasure. personal opinion offcource ..

FZ16 - 75K i guess. saves money. good lowend torque.good speed uptill 90-100. do you like naked bike? good for city ride.. touring I wouldn't favor much.

R15 - 1.22 Lakhs. perfect. perfect. perfect.
if you like fullfaired bike. Please forget the pillion apart from GF/wife.

Avenger - Bajaj quality. 80K i guess. saves money. only go for this if you are in love with cruiser. add a bajaj provided windshield for 3K extra. a bit of pain in city ride and bad roads.

Duke - perfect again. 1.31 lakhs.
do you like naked bikes? you can say Its Fz, up by 2 levels.

all above are pune price. Delhi price are cheaper and bangalore are costlier.

hope it helps ..

Without any intention of starting a brand war, no idea why people label call it "Bajaj quality". I mean...seriously, does the bike disintegrate or the engine falls of or does the engine seize every now and then? please throw some light.

Thanks guys for inputs.

I came to know about one Avenger 4 months old going for 71K (New is 83K). I am a bit skeptical about Avenger since I have heard horror stories about Pro-biking and overall quality of parts (Odomtere, headlight, clutch wire going kaput). Though its a perfect suit for my height, I don't want to end up with a low quality bike.

I test rode R15 again and found it quite good. Only issue is getting used to te ergonomics. As I would like to do weekend rides (50-120KM) on this, not suer about its overall comfort factor. As being a FIAT fan, I value handling a lot but then it should not cause too much discomfort.

Also its at the end of my budget spectrum as well but then its got a bling factor for sure. I have asked my friend who has R15 V1, for a longer test ride.

A twist in the making....

Had a test ride of the 5 months old Avenger yesterday. It has run 5700 as per Odo and service booklet. The asking price is 70K with a saddle bag free with the bike. Now the R15 is like 50K costlier than this Avenger.

I liked this Avenger since it has not run much and has a good power. Only downside is: Tube tyres and mechanical things like fuel guage and odo.

Do you guys think 70K is a good price or should I be getting this around 67K? New Avenger costs around 83K on road in Pune.

i don't think you should go with this bike.you are already paying 70k ,so why not buy new hunk, cbz or rtr ,gs 150 r with this money rather than putting this money on a pre-worshiped one.think practically.
