I've done 700kms in a single day and I was feeling simply normal after I reached my destination. The bike is an amazing tourer and handles highways like a charm.
I've toured on most Indian bikes and this one was the least stressed.
An FZ is too pricey for the package it offers, but the R15 is really worth every penny or more.

R15 is a awesome bike but lacks touring AS COMPARED to FZ
Probably your back pains a little more than the other bikes, but I think its all about get used to. An FZ is a bad bike to compare, I would rate the R15 a way better tourer than an FZ simply because with that engine, you cant cruise in peace really. My back hurt a lot more when I rode an r15 as compared to an upright bike like a zma, but the point is, if you get used to it, none of the present bikes can replace it in India. I know what these guys mean when they say, you will like the R15 more when you ride other bikes in India. Although it might not the best tourer in India, it does the job pretty well but I do hope you have a strong back, otherwise get used to visiting the gym more often. I learnt it the hard way.

First when I got my pulsar, during the first week my wrists and shoulder were paining a lot. At that time I was really frustrated and I was thinking something was seriously wrong with the bike. But later I got used to it. So if you are having problems with the riding position initially you might get used to it later.

But if you are already having back problems then I guess the sporty riding position on the r15 wont be that comfortable.
