  • + First aid kit +

    Dear all,

I will be going on 4 day bike trip this weekend of around 2000km. I have done most of the preparations for it. But there is one area about First Aid where i dont have much knowledge. I just know the basic stuff to carry. I tried to search for it on the forum but didnt get any results.

    First Aid Kit.

    1. Bandages
    2. Dettol (antiseptic)
    3. Cotton
    4. adhesive bandages
    5. ORS
    5. regular medication :
    a. strength pain medication
    b. headache (saridon)
    c. Fever (paracetamol)

I can think of these only. Others please do contribute what all can/should be carried keeping bike trip in mind. You can also mention about what all things you all carry on your bike trips.

    Topic Approved.

There are some common problems with First Aid kits:

    1. Most of the First Aid Kits are supplied by the company itself with the bike, so when these expire, not many bikers think about changing/ updating them,
    2. Often, they don't get used even on accidents, as bikers forget they have them in their bikes,

And apart from the mentioned medication, Volini/ Pain relief spray and Crepe Bandage can be added too.

Good to see a responsible and a cautious rider!

        Suggested additions below:

-Anti-septic cream like Soframycin, Burnol etc as Detol is for wound cleaning only. A wound dressing should have a thin layer of cream for surface protection
        -Iodex, Moov for muscle ache
-IBrufen a muscle relaxant, for aches, also anti inflamatory
        -Anti acidity tablets
-Candy bar, high calorie chocolates: important if intake of calories is needed & is orally possible

Don't just keep ORS/Electral in the kit, regularly mix it with your drinking water.. this will replenish lost minerals & salts and keep all vital functions under check in this hot summer.

        Enjoy your ride!

Apart from adhesive bandages try to keep some cotton bandages as well... You will get them at any medical store...

I realized the importance of these when I had a fall recently and had some bruises on my right palm... The attendant at a local hospital cleaned the bruise with dettol an tied a cotton bandage around my palm... It was quite painful to ride after that along with the gloves but the cotton bandages did help in minimizing the pain....

Have a safe ride.... All The Best!!!

              FIRST AID KIT

1.dettol /savlon (savlon preffered as stings less)
2.combiflam (combination of ibuprofen and paracetamol ) effective for headaches and moderate pain
3.PAN D (pantoprazole +domperidone )antacid and anti emetic combo should be taken with painkillers as they cause acidity and domperidone also controls any vomitting sensation
              4.Crepe bandage
              5.cotton pads
6.gauge rolls , preferably six inches bredth(can also be used for making slings in case of fractures .
              7.dynaplast or adhesive bandage
8.hydrogen peroxide (best but hurts like hell, its a chemical debrider)
              9.betadine(povidone iodine)ointment (it sticks better)
10.inj inac(diclofenac) and a 5 cc syringe (it is given intra muscular on buttocks or shoulder thus after cleaning the skin with dettol it can be given by anybody )
as oral drugs wont relive severe pain.

              DO NOT take
              1. opioid pain killers (eg tramadol etc..)
2 . cough syrups with codein or dextromethorphan
              3.antihistaminics with sedative effect
