  • help with cheap Cyclocomputers

    hi Friends
I want to buy a cheap cyclocomp in Bangalore for some experimental purpose. Can anyone guide as to where can I get one?

It should be waterproof at the least. Preferably wired.

    How cheap?

Cheapest I know are at decathlon for about Rs.500. But I don't think they're waterproof. in fact I don't think you'll get anything anywhere near that price if it has to be waterproof.

      yes around 500-700 will do
wanted to fit it to my Motorcycle to see the max speed, avg speed, time, etc which are readily displayed by the cyclocomputers unlike Motorcycle displays
      Thank You

          Thank You:-)
Actually I wanted one to fit it to my Motorcycle to know things like max speed, avg speed, time and time elapsed as an experiment
found one I liked. both DX and Ebay are quoting similar prices.
only mounting it will be a prob as the clip-on on my Bike doesn't have much space for anything else. will try to work a way around. also fitting the magnet to the mag wheel will be a hassle as the magnet holder has holes for spoke only. will try to work a way around that too

            But are these 100% accurate?.
Was wondering how these 5$ things be more accurate than our 3k+digital meters...

don't know for sure man. but according to users from various sites, they do the job on Bicycles pretty accurately.
also my speedometer doesn't have displays for max speed, average speed, time, etc. so having one of these little gadgets will be a plus point at least for me
also the main function of these gadgets is to display the speed. so can compare its reading with the one on the main meter easily and know its accuracy.
also I want this $5 gadget for this experiment only and if it serves my purpose, I'll get a better one

sure...only it will take some time as I don't have a credit card
I'll get my friend's help and it'll take about 1month to complete.

I'll update as soon as I get the item...hope it works. only worried about placing it as there is no space on the clip-ons. maybe will make a new clamp locally

Easy way for that - silicone glue, and glue the magnet to the spoke of the rim. You can remove it later as well.

For any cyclocomputer, you need to feed in the diameter ( in cm ) of the wheel that you are measuring the speed of. Remember this will be the OD ( with the tyre ).

the difference is in the way the reading is taken. the Normal speedometers rely on the wheel turning a worm and gear assembly, which rotates a sensor, and the speed of the sensor gives the speedometer reading.

This relies on counting the number of times the magnet crosses the sensor, and depending on the diameter of the wheel, gives the speed readout.

Benefit - with a little testing, you can calibrate it to be accurate, and the average speed, distance covered, time taken readouts are a plus in comparison to a bike's speedo.

jd sir, the one I selected for my experiment is a cheap one(as in thread topic) and first I'd like to try out the $5-$6 one I found on DX and ebay. If your's is available at that range then I'm game
BTW, which make is it? as in DX I found only 2 or 3 options.
where can I get the silicone glue?

may I ask why didn't you installed it?

                          Thank You

^^ dint test it, but yeah, its the cheap 5-6$ one only.

You can get silicone glue, or even aralidite from any hardware store. Silicone is cleaner, because it will be easier to remove once experiment is over.

And you can mount the meter using tyraps, easy and clean. Cut to remove when done.

I checked the meter and the sensor with the magnet to make sure its working fine, at the most you might have to change the battery, CR2032.
