  • Tso here is my longest ride in a day on cycle BNG-MYS-BNG

What did i do on last weekend?

Was bored of going to home every week ever since i purchased little car for my dad and travelling by bus till Suntikoppa was something i started to hate. Wanted to stay back at Bangalore and do nothing was my initial plan. But little did i know what was there in store for me on this particular day

On a weekday commute to work i met a cycling friend of mine and over a cup of coffee i was saying sometime i wanted to ride a roadbike and itching for a long ride. Since i had no plans for this weekend i told him why don't you lend your spare road bike and we can do a small ride to check how comfortable i am in road bike. It took its shape by friday and evening after working hours i met him and borrowed his road bike ( Btwin sport One) and adjusted the saddle height and other bike fits. Rode it for few kms to check its fit and i had no issues.

The plan was to start at 0530 hours from PESIT college in ORR. Since this was the common point and closest point for us i was ready by 0500 hours and did 10 kms warm up ride before Anil could turn up to the meeting point. Gave him a call to check his whereabouts only to realize that he has overslept ( which he never does and meets the commitment) and he was ready by 0605 hours. We soon started our ride and rode carefully till RR nagar arch as the roads were not that road bike friendly.

    Me at Chennapatna

Once i crossed Bangalore University entrance i knew what was a road bike capable of doing on a smooth tarmac and i zipped fast. Reached Bidadi with an average of 28kmph and stopped for a quick bite. Till here we rode with empty stomach and it is really not suggestible. Had lemon rice and cup of coffee and resumed our ride, Anil then casually asked how are you feeling and where shall we ride to? I said i am doing great and we can ride anywhere as i had no plans and all that i said to him is I have enough time and can ride till night. We rode with an average of 30 kmph till Maddur and took another break for food here.

After having idly and coffee we resumed the ride. Maddur to Mandya was a cake walk with little uphills and we were greeted by the heavy traffic jam inside Mandya town. I got off the saddle and walked with the bike to clear the traffic and soon after the exit i realized that i had dropped my water bottle somewhere on the road in excitement of cycling! As soon as we found a tender coconut vendor we stopped to refuel our body and then resumed ride to Mysore.

Reached Srirangapatna and then it was a cake walk for us as we soon saw the Mysore entrance board and it was a carrot for me. Kept on cycling hard and reached Columbia Asia Hospital signal in 04:40 mins from Bangalore. This was a great ride for me and also the best timing so far. From there till Mysore palace we took easily as the traffic was heavy and reached Palace by 1215 hours.

Found this cute horse and felt like clicking a pic with it

Soon after the photo break we head to Hotel Annapurna which is near City bus stand and have a full meal. After a heavy meal we head back to Bangalore and by then the time was 1330 hours and it was very heat outside! Thanks to the reduced rainy season. We take the return ride casually and by the time we reach Srirangapatna it was too tiring and soon we found a bus shelter where we took a rest. As we were taking rest i saw 2 guys cycling towards Bangalore and it did not take much time for me to realize who they were. Screamed their name and they soon joined us for the break.

They were none other than Opendro and Ganapathy Subramanian and after chitchatting we started to Bangalore. The headwinds were too heavy and it was very difficult to ride ahead in that weather condition. We stopped for a quick water break and this photo was taken between Srirangapatna and Mandya

    Ganapathy Subramanian, Me and Opendro

    Anil Kadsur, Me and Opendro

We stop at Mandya to refuel our self and we had cool drinks and Peanut burfey ( Chikki ). This is when Opendro was saying that he wanted a pure salted chips and LAYS does not supply pure salted chips now and all that is available was Masala chips which he never liked! He was continuously saying this and soon Anil finds a pack of pure salted chips at the rack which was hidden by Masala chips.. Man.. One should have seen the happiness in Opendro's face when he got the pack of chips..

After this we stopped at Kokkarebellur entrance for a much needed break and had apple and badam which Opendro and Ganapathy was carrying. We decide to stop at Kamath for having something and then resume our ride. The guys take off and soon i realize that i cannot pedal anymore and i was loosing energy very drastically. I start fighting to pedal and soon thoughts come in mind to abort the ride and take the bus from Chennapatna. Heart says do not drop the ride at this stage.. It was a great fight between heart and body. Some how struggled hard and reached Kamath after some 10 minutes and i had a solid food ( 1 Plate Idly vada and Set dosa , Coffee). After the food break we realize that Opendro and Anil had a flat and we start fixing it at the hotel entrance itself, By then it was already 1830 hours and it was getting really dark. We had another 65 kms to go before we slept

The best part was 3 of us were not carrying lights and only Ganapathy had bright lights( I had a rear blinker and so Opendro too ). We take off from there in the dark and it was an amazing ride from then onwards. Opendro took the lead and pulled us were Ganapathy was tailing behind with the lights on. We rode non stop till Ramanagar and i took the lead and stopped to make couple of calls. I could not see them behind and i sensed something went wrong. Dropped a message to Anil and i was taking break in one of the bus stops. Soon they arrive and got to know that Anil had another flat on his bike!

We ride from thereon and stop for a quick break before Bidadi and have Tea and Bun. This is when Opendro shared his 1000 kms of Brevet riding experience and we caught some fellow travellers curious looks and questions. Soon we reach NICE road junction and then the clock was showing as 2125 hours!

We disperse from there and Opendro and Ganapathy took off really fast and me and Anil took it casually and reached PESIT college at 2315 hours putting a great end for our Bangalore-Mysore-Bangalore bicycle ride in a day

Wow - must say U guys are crazy - I mean well many souls think twice before doing that distance on a motorbike and the most adventerous part - U guys just seemed to have followed the heart. The entire ride/route etc wasn't preplanned is what I infer. I am sure it must have had been a tough battle between the mind and body towards the end but then what a lovely sleep you guys must have had that night. Nice Nice Nice
