Regarding safety, yes 2 wheelers (right from a cycle to an MTT turbine) are unsafe compared to cages.

Totally agree with you. If bikers started caring about 'log kya kahenge' (what others think) then they would be driversOriginally posted by Divya Sharan View PostIt was never about others' mentality bro. Don't totally agree with you. I any day feel safer on two wheels rather than four. In the cage I am always afraid of getting trapped in a fireball! A bike or cycle gives me the freedom of jumping off
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Regarding this part, its not about the freedom or the wind in your hair feeling, rather the after effects of an accident. I agree drivers die too, but riders are more prone to injury as their is no cage around them.Originally posted by The Monk View PostDon't totally agree with you. But, we ride because of:
1. passion (applies to enthsiasts)
2. cheaper transport (applies to enthsiasts + commuters)
I'll be cycling around 14 kms round trip myself. But I agree that the route to your office is not suited for cycling.Originally posted by Praj zm View Postnice to know dude

My theory - when the times comes We will die irrespective of being on a bicycle, bike, car, pedestrian or in the comforts of your home. In case of a minor accident, a cyclist on any day would be more physically fit compared to others so will have a better/quicker chance of recovery.
Agreed that with fewer cycles on the road these days, people might not be used to them any more - so now the onus is on us to get more cycles back onto the road so people take notice and make way
Let the following list of things not stop us from pedalling:
1. Log kya kahenge?
2. How can I ride in formals... etc etc
My previous job required a round trip of 18+kms. I used to cycle on most days and bike on some. When I cycled, I used to pedal in t-shirt, reach office a few mins in advance, freshup and put on the formal - For this I was inspired by reading a blog of a HSBC Manager in Hong Kong who pedalled to office.
Coming to the "log kya kahenge" part - I have observed that more and more people are begining to realise the effects of the modern lifestyle and despite advancement in every field, you find more and more people suffering from ailments even in their early 30s and so much research is being done and it has already been proved that how a little bit of regular exercise can do wonders. So even if someones ego makes them tell you "oh! you commute on a cycle?", deep within the very person would be thinking "maybe even I should give it a try, it could help me loose some weight". So you never know, U can actually become an inspiration to others and help them live a healthier life too
The biggest advantage of cycling to work apart from the environmental factors I think is - You don't have to TAKE OUT time from your schedule for a workout - just add a few more minutes to your commute.
Some might say - my office is very far, I can't cycle everyday. In such cases, you may want to try pedalling to work maybe just 2-3days or alternate days. One day bicycle and one day Bike/car whatever. I mean if we seriously want to do it, we have so many options else we have so many excuses.

Got my Hero Ranger MTB today (second hand). Would be a hoot to ride/pedal to office. And yes, I plan to change to formals in the office as mentioned above!

Very well written, exactly my thoughts are the same. Wish everyone thinks the same so that cycles fill our roads.Originally posted by yaser_kb100 View Post[COLOR=#222222][FONT=Times New Roman]My theory - when the times comes We will die irrespective of being on a bicycle, bike, car, pedestrian or in the comforts of your home. Re: Cycling to Work
I have been riding bicycle since I was in 5th grade regularly. Even when I had a bike, I didn't stop riding bicycle. For about a month a 40 year old rusted bicycle has become my commuting vehicle after my RX was totaled. The bottom bracket broke today, planning to overhaul it. Actually I might restore the bicycle to rideable condition. The bicycle suffered much torture and neglect but gonna get better soon. I'm not sure but according to my Dad who purchased the bicycle in early 1970s, it was a Hero bicycle, forgot the model, I have the serial number intact. Would be glad if someone could get some info about the bicycle from the serial number.I am back!

Re: Cycling to Work
^^ Good to know that you cycle. Most people use cycle in their school days or just to learn to ride a two wheeler before graduating to a bike.
If you are serious about cycling buy a brand new cycle.
Please post a picture of your classic old cycle . I suggest you restore and keep if you are interested and buy a new cycle for daily commute.

Re: Cycling to Work
Got the bicycle dismantled and made a list of parts that needed replacement. The restoration process is halted due to lack of money, now-a-days riding a borrowed bicycle for commuting purpose. I'm planning to start a thread documenting the rebuild and I'd post pictures once I get to borrow a cellphone with camera functionality. I too think getting a new bicycle would b nice but it'd cost around 3500 rupees so not an option for near future. My dad invested a lot of money in Saradha group and lost all of it , so we are barely making a living now-a-days.I am back!

Everybody has their own good and bad times.
Right now you are in that phase. Hope for the best and i pray that you get out of the difficult time fast. Just believe that nothing lasts forever, even the bad times. So be cheerful
