As they say, monotonous life kills one sooner than smoking, from time to time, we need to spice up our life a little bit. Thinking that, I decided to make my everyday ride a little bit different. The night before, @chaosaddict inquired about the condition of the road that connects Nimati Ghat to NH37 near Kenduguri, I gave a reply but I thought, “How about taking a few pictures of the road and of Nimati Ghat too?” it would surely help others who decide to visit Majuli.

I started a little bit late that morning so the roads won’t be foggy and the crappy cellphone camera would be able to capture photos. I was up on the saddle at 10:05 in the morning heading towards Lahdoigarh Chariali, the plan was to reach Nimati Ghat through Lahdoigarh road.

Lahdoigarh road, you can get an idea about the condition of the road from the picture

    Good road starts...

I kept riding and soon the roads were deserted and the number of houses encountered near the road was decreasing. The road was good for a few kilometers and the scenery was nice, there were trees on the roadside and there were empty paddy fields (Thanks to marauding wild elephants) where water buffaloes were grazing on both sides as far as eyes can see. It was all great, the Sun was shining bright, the sky was blue and the poem Tintern Abbey by Wordsworth

      More smooth road

Still 5 kilometers left to reach Nimati

My shadow's the only one that rides beside me...

The bright day will refresh anyone's mood

        Hey Cleaner,

Sorry for missing it out earlier, blame the servers for not notifying me. Anyways, the Nimati road looks decent, traditional view of how roads are in Assam! And you really need to control that tone with marchers as they are emotionally agitated quickly. I also thought that crapping out in the nature was long gone, and some 10 years back I was describing to folks about the way they do it in the Indian midlands, ironic!

All in all, it is wonderfully narrated and I hope to see more pictures. How about including a selfie this time? After all, xBhp is anxious when it comes to you. Keep up the positive attitude and keep doing rides.

        All the best.

Well, @chaosaddict I thought about abandoning this log as there was no response at all from xBhpians but maybe I will complete it now.

There are only two things which are constant in this universe, one is change and the other is people getting intimate with nature, if you know what I mean. Both are eternal and they are there to rustle our jimmies forever.

I'd surely include a selfie but only after I get a haircut, haven't shaved or got a haircut in last 4 months so my face is barely visible now

Anyway, here is the next part of the travelogue

Ignoring them, I kept pedaling towards Charigaon Nimati road, and after passing a few hordes of oncoming cattle, I was at the intersection where Lahdoigarh Nimati road connects with Charigaon Nimati road. One funny thing I noticed while passing the oncoming cattle, there was an ox who tried to hump every cow he could get close to, looks like he forgot that he has lost his bollocks long time ago at the hands of a mighty vat. Well, enough of cattle procreation (Or recreation?) story, back to journey, I took a right turn to get on the Charigaon Nimati road and pedaled towards Nimati Ghat. As Madhurjya (@Bindass Axomia) already mentioned, the road was in excellent condition and well maintained, the newly patched potholes showed clear evidence of regular maintenance, I go through that route almost every day and I can tell that there was not even a pothole, just small cracks and they filled them up pretty quickly, kudos to PWD.

A light breeze was blowing and the smell of matured rice was in the air, there was paddy fields as far as I could see, fortunately not barren this time. There were ladies (and Bangladeshis) harvesting the rice with sickles and I could feel my mood turning good again. Wordsworth came into my mind again, this time with the Daffodils, the yellow rice all over the field could surely be compared with the daffodils fluttering and dancing in the breeze. The road was wide and smooth with almost no traffic and after riding half a kilometer on it, the wetlands starts. There were water buffaloes grazing on pickerelweed, and the birds were chirping and fluffing their wings, all contributing to an excellent journey.

I reached Nimati Ghat around 11:15 AM, the roads near the ghat was dusty and sometimes it would take chain tearing force on the pedal to move the bicycle forward due to the damn dusty roads. I spend some time in the port gazing at the river and looking at people and of course, taking pictures. There were folks waiting for ferry, some were busy hauling goods to the ferries and of course, some were just hanging around like me. The government is providing additional ferries to help the tourists who come to visit Majuli during this “Raslila” time. Ferries leave to Majuli at 8:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 2:15 PM and 5 PM, they get delayed just like flights too so plan accordingly if you visit Majuli.

Green is good for your eyes

Oncoming hordes of cattle, comparable in their brutality to the Mongols

Another one, this horde included our horny guy failing to acknowledge his apparent lack of balls

The intersection which connects Lahdoigarh Nimati road to Charigaon Nimati road

          Welcome to Kokilamukh bird sanctuary

Deserted road with an awesome view, it would have been hard to hold the urge to whack open the throttle if I was on a motorcycle

Harevsting rice with sickle, interest fact, they use old socks with a hole made in it for the thumb as gloves so the sharp leaves of rice plant do not slash their hands

Water buffaloes grazing in the field

This place is referred to as "mole" due to its apperance

Banking facility is available in Majuli, not in Nimati though

          Nimati Ghat

In case you're wondering what they do with all those concrete posts, they play Tetris

          Mahabahu Brahmaputra...

I don't know why but this place always reminds me of an Old West town

That ramp is notorious for causing punctures and if you really have a shitty luck, the nails on that ramp may tear apart the tires of your beloved bike or cage. Cagers are warned, a lot of cages have fallen into the river from that place

You should visit Assam someday, it is a really nice place but beware, the other lane always moves faster until you get on it.

Wow... this is something special. I love cycling, but the climatic condition of Odisha doesnt allow me to exploit my cycling fantasies more often (and I sweat too much as well). Guess the humidity is low at your place. Lucky you. And ye, really nice places. Putting Assam visit in my bucket list(nah, not on a cycle though ).

These photos were taken on a good sunny day, I should show you photos on monsoon. It rains almost every god damn day and mud everywhere, that does not stop my cycling adventures though

OT: Students from our college (especially our department) is going on a tour to Odissa, how's the weather up there at this time?

I missed this thread somehow. Great travelogue.
This reminded me old days when I used to wander on old Atlas. However I never went further than 15-20 kms. The Brahmaputra is seriously wiiiide.

Post the rest of the log buddy. Don't bother about the number of responses. For any post there are at least 100 silent viewers. You have posted into bicycles log which doesn't get much traffic. You should add word like Assam or something into your title, people including myself ignore travelogues which don't carry locations in the titles.
