• Experts please help me in deciding new bicycle.

Hi I am not new to cycling, have rode hercules before which was not comfortable in using. Kindly help me in deciding a bicycle which suits my needs as below.

1. Mainly for fitness
2. Occasional long ride around Bangalore.
3. I didn't like revo shift. I would like to go for thumb shifter
4. Budget around 20000.
5. Disc brakes (Not mandatory)
6. Light Weight.

I visited Bums on the Saddle, the experience was superb, but the price is bit high. The starting price they have is around 30,000 for trek cycle.

I also did visit to Decathlon Mysore road almost every week end. I have rode all the cycles out there. The staff there are very well trained on how to treat their customers. They know there stuff .

I liked RR 5.3 it was priced well around 24,999. But this is discontinued and instead they have introduced RR 520, this one is really awesome, but the price is 31,999.

There are other brands which I am not aware of.

I request experts here to help me in choosing a good bike to fit my needs.

BTW I am 6'0" 80 kg.

Regards,
Satish

Query Approved

1. Hybrid
2. Hybrid
3. Good Choice
4. Decent budget (see if you can stretch it a mite )
5. Avoid disc brakes at this budget point
6. Hybrid

Decathalon products are VFM.

Have a look at the cycles i have listed in this post around your budget - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/bicycles...ml#post1125775

At that height and weight, you are good to go, probably just a few kilos to be knocked off. i am 5'11" and 75 currently, in the process of going down back to my regular 70-72.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Monk sir, hats off to you. I just saw your thread going to spiti.

My god great achievement.

I am planning to go for Trek or Cannondale with V brakes and front suspension. Can you recommend a good model according to my requirements.

I just saw Trek 4300 costing around 45,000 online.

Please help me on this the monk, I would like to buy this ASAP.

Regards
Satish

Hi satish

Good to see a fellow cycling enthusiast here.

My suggestion would be to avoid any kind of suspension on a cycle if you are not planning to do trail rides or things like that. Light trails can be done even without a suspension. Remember your legs would perform better than any suspension at your budget. And it adds unnecessary weight to the bike. Also as The Monk suggested avoid disk brakes. Good V-brakes do the job pretty well.

You can also look at Schwinn if it is available in your area. I have used a Schwin Sporterra for a year. It is decent Hybrid and I think will fall in your budget. I had got mine for 21K at that time. Not sure if the price is the same now. I had changed the stock 32c tires to 28c and it turned out to be a nice bike even for regular century rides.

Just Monk. No Sir. Am just a kid

Trek, Cannondale are sold at a massive brand premium compared to other companies. You can go ahead with these if you like, but honestly other companies will give you more VFM. The Trek 4300 is an MTB, not what you would want to buy. But a hybrid without front suspension. You will be far better off.

I thought your budget was 20K?

Thank you coldfire and monk for spending time on this thread.

Kid I believe you are 27 now.

And after researching a lot I extended my budget to 30000 for a good quality bikes.

So here are my selections

Rock rider 520
Trek 7.1
Trek 7.2
Trek 8.2 Ds
Cannondale (liked the looks but never got a chance to ride)

Monk and coldfire and others I request to kindly share your thoughts not only on the above selection but also on other brands also.

My only query is whether hybrid bikes will be comfortable for long rides.

Regards,
Satish

Age is not how many years you spend on this earth, but what you gained in your head. I have absolutely nothing in my head

There are a lot of brands available, if you are willing to scout the market check out KHS and Merida bikes as well. Both brands are known to be VFM.

I just noticed you are from Bangalore.

Check out Wheelsports and Happy Earth Store. Though i haven't personally bought anything from them. I have spoken to the owners of both these stores and they are extremely helpful and knowledgable. And they have a good reputation in the Indian cycling scene.

Re: Experts please help me in deciding new bicycle.

Finally booked a Merida Speeder 100 from wheelsports Chamarajpet. I have paid the advance, will be receiving the bike on Thursday, March 12th.

Meanwhile enjoy the picture.

Can someone please shed some light on this bike? I hope I have made the right decision.
