  • 2015 upto 20k bike reference thread (img heavy)

    Dear Reader,
This thread is NOT meant for general discussion. It is meant to be a thread to give to the standard newbie who has not done his homework. This is the 20k thread to "spoonfeed those who are too lazy to search". I mean guys (and ladies), with all due respect, the universe of 20k INR bikes does not expand because yet another newbie signed up and asked the same question as the other ten thousand before you. We love folks who do their homework and ask second level questions (comfort in one vs another etc). You can only answer so many of these "too cool to search" queries before you blow an artery. Or make such a page. So there this is. feel free to discuss / suggest changes.

Again, nitpickers please click the X on the top right of the window. If there's something minor missing about the thread (not good enough image / same color bike is no longer available etc) - feel free to add (but not suggest). I will update the first post accordingly, and with full attribution. Its a community thing - the more hands on deck, the merrier

Figure out your budget. Then buy the bike JUST above your budget. Buy the best you can almost not afford.
No one regretted the last 1k they additionally spent on their bikes.

As always, Caveat emptor. There's a reason why imported bikes cost so much more. You only get what you (pretty much) pay for. These are good bikes to get started on, but ideally you would want to upgrade once you get regular.

PS: Yes, every image is either from the manufacturer site or from google search. I don't own any of the images.

      Bicycle under 10k

      First time buyer.
Need a bicycle for daily use (exercise/commute) It will mostly see road use/city tarmac.
With what limited research I have done, need something decent with low maintenance, something with good shock-ups might not be in reach, so good gears and if possible 1 disc will be great.

It would be preferred if its within 7-8K but can be stretched to 10k if its really worth it.

      Use: City/tarmac
      Rider Details
      Height: 5'11"
      Weight: 85-90 KG
Budget: 7-8K (can stretch till 10K for something really worth)

Preferences: something with relaxed sitting posture, not really aggressive, for daily use.

I currently stay in Pune so if you guys know some shops which I can checkout the cycles in person so I can get an idea what I am buying.

I acknowledge its not a great budget by looking at the threads here,
What are the best options I have in that range?

You can try any decathlon or rockrider bike with in your budget. It's value for money.

You can also try the Hero Octane Recra. An Indian bike with good shocks and shimano gear set. I used this One of the good bikes.

Try test riding for height and comfort before buy. All the best.
