  • Need advice to buy a new bicycle.

    Hello xBhpians,

I need your guidance in buying a new bicycle. I want the bicycle for fitness purpose and some short tours ~50 Kms.

    Height: 6'2"

Weight: ~95 Kg. (Yes, I'm overweight)

Budget: 10K - 15K (Strict budget, cannot increase)

Purpose: Fitness / Leisure Sunday Rides

    Location: Delhi

I am completely noob in the world of cycles, so don't know much about them. Just recently got to know, there are 3 types of Bicycles, Road, Hybrid, MTB. My preference would be to buy either a MTB or a Hybrid or as the experts suggest.

Any local store address in Delhi would be helpful, where I can at least take a test ride. Also, do let me know how to check if the bicycle height suits my height or not.

    Thanks in advance.

    Approved!

Road use + leisure Sunday rides = MTB is a no no, rather get a thin tired bicycle!
Visit Decathlon (if present near your area).

Or else, increase the budget by a couple grand and look at Montra (if buying new).
There is a good market for hardly used bicycles too where people realize their enthusiasm is over and you get pretty decent to good deals.

I'm a newbie in this field too but I'm sure one of our crazy mods and other members would enlighten you.
    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

A Decathlon store is present just around the block. But I don't really know, how to check whether the bike would suit my height and purpose or not.

I guess they may allow you a short ride inside their premises once they're convinced you're a potential buyer.

For starters, be very careful what you buy. Almost everyone will try to sell you what they have. With your height, it will be difficult to find bikes in stock which fit you. Chances are that you will have to order based on faith!!!

A hybrid would probably be best for you.

In Delhi, visit Cyclofit in Ghitorni, The Bike Shop near Green Park Metro Station and there is a store run by a long time xBhpian in the traditional cycle market in Jhandelwalan called Mehta Cycles. And i shouldn't forget, Decathlon, good VFM.

Don't be in a hurry. Go to all the stores, check out the bikes, don't buy till you have seen enough bikes and feel reasonably sure of your decision.

You would probably need a cycle with a 19 or 21inch frame size, depending on your physical dimensions.

          Any other queries, shoot!
