• Need New Bicycle Guidance

Hi. I'm a 23 year old man looking to purchase a new bicycle. It will be my first bicycle after 6 years.

Budget - 8k-11k, slightly more if worth it
Use Case - daily office commute 5 km one side, tarmac road with patches of potholes, rocks; and weekend leisure rides of about 30-40 km one side on tarmac roads with occasional potholes in urban areas.
Location - Gurgaon, Haryana.
Online / store - I'd prefer purchasing from brick and mortar store to get a good feel of the bike and its quality. Standard stores like Firefox, btwin, Hero, etc are all present in and around the city.

I was thinking of BtWin My Bike from Decathlon, but I'm not sure how well built it is. I want something which doesn't need service or repairs every few weeks and runs 3-4 years in acceptable condition. I'm not particularly looking for gears or suspensions, but rather quality. Though I think gears will make the weekly leisure rides more fun.

Looking for guidance and suggestions.

Thank You.

Query Approved

The MyBike from Btwin is good VFM. Kaushik Iyer bought the Mach City recently as he was also searching for a commuter bike. Maybe he can shed some light on how good is his bike holding up!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Go for Bsa Mach city if you are looking for hybrid cycle. I recently bought Hercules A75 MTB. It is a decent one with lots of features.

Sorry guys... bit caught up with a lotta things. not able to even post about by Jaipur Trip!

Anyway in short the Mach-City is a good starter bike with decent quality. Infact the best I've seen from that stable. Now I do have a bucket load of things I'd like to change on it.... but then Yes someone like me who's quite into Mid/high-end road bikes it's a given that there will be things that I'd want more/less off

BUT...

I don't think anyone buying this as a 1st bike or a beginner bike for recreation or commuting should find any faults with with, Infact I believe for the price it is the best you can buy new off the shelf.

I will give my detailed review later since now I've covered almost 5-6 commute rides but once I find some time.

Hi Kaushik

When you say Mach City, did you mean the earlier Mach City i Bike 7 speed Hybrid or the latest one Mach City Munich 21 speed Hybrid please?

I was inclined to go with the simple Mach City Munich single speed, had a test ride but I am 6ft 1 and this one has only M size, it was not comfortable in it. But they do have L in ibike and munich hybrid.

Which one you bought?

Thanks

Krish

Ahh! it's the Munich 21 which I bought. BTW the iBike 7S range is a rigid MTB

here's a pic of my bike

This bike needs a lot of changes........ you know the other bummer.... the roads to my office have majorly been repaved!! Making me question why did I buy this bike in the 1st place!!!

But it's a good bike & I'm sure by the time I'm finished with modding this it'll look & ride differently. I purposely kept it stock to see if I can manage to get used to a straight bar.

Try Montra Rock 1, my friend owns it and swears by it. I have used it too, pretty good. His bike is maybe 2 years old something (not sure). I have bought a Giant Rincon (V-Brake) (costs 23.5K). But I was considering either a Montra Rock 1 or a Fomas. The Fomas has some very nice components in it (for the price it comes at).

So to summarise test ride the Montra Rock 1 or the Fomas (not sure about the model, but it's the only one in the 10-12K price segment).

P.S. all of these are MTBs, but the Montra works well on Tarmac so does the Giant. And even if you go through a few potholes, you won't end up with bent tire rims.

Hi

What does your Munich 21 weigh? A guy scared me it ways almost 17K as it has steel frame? Any truth in this?
