  • LEL 2017 ( London-Edinburgh-London) - 1400 km in 116 h 40 m

I'm very excited to share that, I will be participating in LEL 2017. It is a 1400 km brevet (1438 km , this year) to be completed in 116 h 40 m, with a elevation gain of 11,000 m. 1600 riders from 55 countries are participating in it. Approximately, 55-60 people are participating from India.

Event is going to be started on 30 th July 2017, from Davenant Foundation school in Loughton, London. The route passes through English countryside, a good amout of hills in between and doubles back at Edinburgh.

The teasing climatic conditions of Britain, are going to test the patience and stamina of all our riders, with the sepculations of temperatures going as low as 3C. Rains are also going to play crucial role.

I'm starting at 10:15 am (BST) on 30 July and P43 is my rider number.

Thank you all and thanks for tracking Monk.

It was really a wonderful experience to ride at a place where cyclists are respected very well. Also there is a lot to learn from other riders from Europe and rest of the world. Seeing 1600 riders is like living in a magical world.

Those who do not know, LEL is London Edinburgh London - a `1400 km brevet to be completed in 117 hours. It happens once for every four years. 1600 riders round the globe took part. 59 Indian riders started and only 10 managed to finish within time and seven out of time. Cold climate, navigation are the two big factors that affected Indian riders performance.

Though there is some regret I took 7 hours additionally to complete the course, I was happy that I didn't give it up. I learnt a lot from this experience and it boosted my confidence levels to attempt many other events like these.

While I posted my experiences in facebook, it took me some time to properly arrange them in a blog. and here it goes.

            Part-1 Northbound and Part-2 Southbound

These are just my experiences in the ride. I will write another blog on the gear used, training and what to expect in UK/ Europe if it is your first international trip.

Thank you all once again. Please feel free to post any queries here.

It is wonderful to know that such a big contingent participated from India and 17 actually completed it. Congratulations once again Sayi Even though you didn't finish it in the allotted time, but the fact that you did finish it is itself a big deal.

May i ask who are the 17 finishers from India?
