  • Need Advice [Budget less than 6000]

I am a 26 year old male, and I teach students for IIT JEE. I am quite a lazy bum and don't do much physical activity. I have a thin body with a little belly outgrowing it (a little too lot Cola here), which I don't mind, But I also don't have much stamina (acc. to my age) which is a major issue IMO. Though I want to be active in my lifestyle and dream about running, and participating in a marathon all the time, I haven't been pursuing my dreams at all. Now, i think that a Cycle can push me out of my comfort zone. So I am planning to go for a Single speed cycle under Rs. 6000, don't want to spend much, in case I don't pursue it for long, it will go waste. I want a no nonsense, maintenance free cycle, with reasonable comfort. Won't prefer very thin tyres, as I don't think that they are suited for our potholed roads. I own a Car but plan to cycle to office if I everything goes as planned.

Options I could chose from net -
    BTwin MyBike (4500 +1000 (Accessories) + 500(Delivery) = 6000)
    Mach City iBike (>6500)
    Mach City Munich (>9000)
    Firefox (Cheapest model, Rs. 9500)
    Suncross (Cheapest model)

I reside in a city which has no Decathlon store, hence will have to buy it online, adding delivery charges to the cost as well. May add to servicing woes? Firefox and Suncross are available in my city but I don't intend to spend too much unless other options available aren't worth it.

    Some Background -
I had a Red BSA I-Bike (a weird shaped bike with weird handle bar) in standard 8th till 10th. I enjoyed it to bits during schooling. I learnt cycling on it and had numerous (minor) accidents on it, which made the connection even more stronger. I could sometimes cycle 20 kms to and fro on very bad village roads to where my father was posted. It was a brilliant cycle, only marred by its complex handle bars as they weren't maintenance free. I kept the cycle with me even till college got over, though I had taken to motor-biking in 10th standard itself. Now I don't have that bike. Father had given it away to some worker. If only I could get that bike back.

Go for the BTwin or either of the two Machs.

Just casual cycling and commuting won't really improve your fitness. Marginally yes, but not much. At 26, you need far more vigorous exercising. Running is perfect for that. If you do start cycling, you need ride a lot for anything to happen. And of course cut down (remove) all the crap that you eat and drink!

A lot of people i know started cycling thinking that they will reduce weight immediately. Pottering along on a bike just doesn't help! But like a gateway drug it got them hooked to physical fitness and led them down many interesting paths
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

I don't eat or drink junk, beverages now. That was way back in college. Also I don't have much weight to lose. I just intend to increase stamina.
Which is a better buy among BTwin and Mach City? Mach is expensive than BTwin.. Does it offer anything better than BTwin? Also should I look at Mach City Munich SS as well?

I would go for the Mach City if it is available in your city, since you mentioned that you will have to buy the BTwin online. Not that anything goes wrong with cycles, but it is better to go back to the shop you have bought it from in case something does go wrong.

More so, if you don't know how to carry out repairs yourself.

Even for increasing stamina you will need to do some hardcore cycling!

Well, the shopkeeper near my house sells Firefox and Suncross but no Mach City. Probably a sham but he is claiming that Mach City has been discontinued to make me go for models he has in stock i.e. Kross, Avon or Atlas. I'll search around a bit but may have to go online route finally. BTwin seems like a better option now.

I really don't understand!! almost all the dealerships for anything, they say "discontinued" instead of admitting that they got no stock.. WHY?!?!???! god I hate such dealerships & prove them on their face that they are lying & that I will never step into their dealership again for this very reason that I can't trust you for your lies.... I love to see their faces then!!!
