  • What is a good hybrid bike to buy around 25k?

I Intend to use it on (bad) city-roads on weekdays and occasional long rides on weekends. Need a bike that will perform well on roads but is more comfortable than a road bike on rough roads.

Are you looking for a new bike or you're okay with a used one? If you're okay with used one, then I suggest that you go for some good brands such as Schwinn, Giant, and so on. You may check on Cyclops or Bums on the Saddle, Bangalore.

      Cheers!

Thanks. I'm looking to buy new. I am most likely buying a Triban 100. It's more road than Hybrid, but I think it'll suit my use. Any opinions?

The blues series from Montra is a good buy in your budget. Among other Indian brands Firefox roadrunner pro is well kitted out.

Triban 100 is a very good bike IMHO. Though the index gear shifter might take some time to get used to, it's not a deal breaker for sure. Btwin makes some VFM bikes. I was an owner of BTwin My Bike 7s and now purchased Triban 100 with drop bars. Initial impressions in the below thread.

Please feel free to let me know in case you need more info on the Triban 100.

            Cheers!

I'd recommend the Montra Hybrid. The Trance-D is a great hybrid bike that falls way under your budget.Lightweight, neatly designed with good Quality parts,Front Suspension and Disc Brakes. You can use the remaining money to buy a good helmet, glasses, bottle holder,mud-guards,Lights for the bike.etc

Or you can get Montra's Flagship Hybrid,The Blues 1.2,slightly above your budget.

A good hybrid bike is the one that offers comfort, can be ridden on and off road and is durable!

Some of the best ones are as follows:-

                1. Firefox rapide 21s
                2. Montra Trance
                3. Bergamont Helix 1.5
                4. Btwin riverside 500
You can find more bikes within your budget, here.

Make sure you buy a bicycle frame that suits your height.
I'have attached a chart that should help you out as well.

Please check out Trek FX series (Trek FX 3 in particular). It has got road bike gear ratio and slimmer tyres that make up for a fast bike.
One thing I suggest is spend slightly more than you plan so that you will keep the cycle longer.

And one more thing I almost forgot is that you need not go for seat suspension. It does not offer much for comfort. It makes sense
only in the mountain trials on a mountain bike. Also in this price range you get not so good and non adjustable suspensions. All cycle shops will try to
sell you this. Again you do not need seat suspension.
