I started cycling when I was 105 kilos at 174 cm. Now, after 4+ years I sustain a level between 75-78 kilos. Here is my advice based on my experiences -

      1. Start you cycling journey with a reasonably light weight hybrid or MTB. Target to keep the gross weight of the cycle within 15 kilos tops. You will find some good bikes at Decathlon (store or app). I recommend something like the ST520 or RR540 if you have the budget. Do not buy a cheaper cycle upfront since it can end up killing your motivation for riding. I am suggesting Decathlon because they provide a good value in most of their bikes and can be relied upon for parts and warranty. Moreover, more often than not, their bikes are scientifically designed for any given price point. The other brands I would consider are all imported and far more expensive. Of the Indian offerings I have only found 2 that are acceptable - Montra Blues Hybrid and Hero Octane Bonito (base version).

      2. Choose a cycle with a very relaxed geometry in the CORRECT FRAME SIZE for you - XL I presume. This will ensure less weight on your palms, but a lot of weight on your bums. Invest in a high quality saddle upgrade BUT NOT on a gel seat. Also invest in high quality cycling gel shorts. Even with these you will have pain initially, but gradually the pressure points will get used to the load in about 2 weeks. After that you should be fine. Get the cycle professionally fitted for you by any local knowledgeable guy. Tell them to fit it for comfort and not performance.

      3. When you start riding, you might feel you are slow but DO NOT lose heart and hope. Focus on training the cadence of your legs. Read up about Cadence. Initially, speed does not matter, but Cadence does. Once you have got a feel for how much a Cadence of about 70-80 is, then you can start pushing for more speed over increasing distances.

      4. If you continue cycling, and I hope you do, for the next 12 months target a cycle upgrade around then. The idea is to get a lighter and faster cycle so that you can progress on your fitness journey. At that point you can think of choosing between a Comfort oriented Road-bike or Gravel bike depending on the general road conditions in your locality.

All the best and feel free to PM/Call anytime to discuss further questions.

In addition to the above in my case I started with the hero royal cycle picked it up for 3000 INR and inserted a shimano hub gear 3 speed bought from aliexpress. Stress free riding.

I created a post but has not been approved yet. I am in similar boat as OP but I am looking for a Fat bike with 4inch tire's, I currently weigh 140Kgs. I checked the market here in Mumbai and I am getting an Fat Bike for around 11K - 20K range. I don't know the quality of the product and since this will be my first bike since I was a Kid I have no idea of weight limits or gear quality of these, they seem to have Shimano turnkey gears or maybe are copies I don't know. Any help in getting a fat bike would be appreciated.

Also it seems like 99% of the fat bike are Chinese cycles even Hero 26T big daddy, so I have no idea if I pay over priced money for a Chinese rebranded product which is cheaper at least by 5-8K.
