awesome stuff. 1 query, practically how do you manage going to office by cycle. Asking this as carrying a bag / riding in the night (in bangalore traffic) can be a little dangerous

Hi Anand.. Amazing stuff and you have inspired me to go for the F5. Looking at your picasa album has got me all the more inclined to get one. The looks are just amazing!! The rugged look mixed with the technical superiority is just superb!
Had a few queries if u dont mind regarding the F5 which I guess you should be able to answer since you are owning one now..

                1. Will the tyres and rim handle the potholes in our city streets?
                2. How is the maintenance? Does it require any special care? Do u do most of the stuff yourself?
                3. Are u able to climb inclined streets and flyovers with minimum effort with the assistance of gears or does it make u regret the decision of going for a cycle?
                4. How do u handle wet surfaces just after a rain or water spillage since the mudguards are absent and there would be lot of splashing of water from the front and back onto the legs and other parts of the body..?

Apologies for the many questions, but if the answers to the above are in the favorable then I will be picking one for myself very soon.

Apologies for the many questions, but if the answers to the above are in the favorable then I will be picking one for myself very soon.

These tires are better than tires of any Indian motorcycle in terms of handling abilities, bike will never skid. The material used in these tyres is of very superior quality.

As far as rims are concerned, they are CNC double wall with eyelet, forget about potholes, they can even handle stunts.

Maintenance:- Frame has got limited lifetime warranty& for the rest I trust SRAM. Shockers need no maintenance bcoz they are air-pressurized. Tyres are very durable. Gear cassettes are also from SRAM- very durable. Chain is from KMC- very good in quality. In short, Bike is very durable and will need very less maintenance. Just get it serviced in every 3-4 months, the bike will run smooth. It does not need any special care.

Climbing:- The bike has got 27 speed gear box means- 3 cassettes in front & 9 at rear. It is very wide range. You can choose gear according to you mood. Climbing is very easy in low gears and it is very speedy in higher gears.

For wet surfaces you can put plastic mudguards on the bike for 500 bucks. But I use my old mtb in rains.

Choose your bike according to ur needs, if u r gonna ride in urban cities for most of the time, then go for a road or hybrid bike. Mtb's like cannondale F5 are for rough riding and bad-roads. A road-bike is more speedier with very less effort but slightly delicate for rough terrain.

From the above, are you suggesting that the F5 will not be good for biking in the city streets..? I was more interested since you said u use it for daily commute to office and back.. So does your commute involve lot of broken roads or do u take a detour just to enjoy the bike better on rough terrain..

A road or hybrid bike is better for city riding than mtb. If u want speed than a road-bike is best, mtb's are best for rough-ride, a hybrid combines best of both.

And yes I m using it for my daily commuting from my village to city Library. Some part of my terrain is very rough, so I went for F5. Another thing is that it is very durable.

I will also buy a road-bike soon and will enjoy the best of both. I will go for La-sovereign Urbano, its a good entry-level road-bike. It costs near to 25k.

So, if u r living in city & will be riding in city and dont want to spend like me (more than 50k for 2 bikes ) than go for LA Urbano.

In my case, my father gave me 50k & I planned for these 2 bikes- Cannondale F5 & LA Urbano ( will buy it after a month).

Did you get any discount on the bike? The dealer in bangalore says I wont get any discount in any part of india other than the wholesale dealer in Delhi. Also, no freebies.

I am thinking about getting cannondale F9 2010.
