Today after a long wait, it was my turn to test out the new warrior in the quarter-litre segment. The new Ninja 300 ABS. Got the chance to play with the parallel twin, DOHC,8-valves, liquid cooled warrior and unleash the 39 horses and 27 Nm. delivering at 11k. So here's what I got to know....
Starting with first thing's first!! As being a ninja it carries the same design language as of it's elder sibling Ninja ZX10R. The bike has that catchy ninja sticker job done and also the fairing fibres are neat and good quality.Personally speaking(as looks are a matter of personal choice) I didn't find the looks so appealing as the other bikes in the class. But all based on personal experience.
Coming to the thing what the Ninja is good, I mean the best at......
Performance!! The twin parallel cylinders do their job up to the mark of delivering the power linearly way till 13k. The power is good but the thing that comes into notice is the refinement it has got!! Kawasaki did some really well job using their race engineering knowledge and it reflects in the performance. The fuelling of the bike also seems precise thanks to the dual throttle valves provided.
The most magnetic update to this warrior is the presence of ABS as standard. And yes!! It turns out to be a life saver when you have this much power to play with.
The braking unit as now changed to endurance still serves their job at it's best. One has to get really hard on brakes sometimes but now you can, as the ABS is there at your back to deal with!! The combination of the abs along with a slip and assist clutch makes it a track ready package.
The suspension is a no complain setup. It finds the sweetspot between track riding and the streets. The seating posture was perfect for me(as a 6ft. tall guy). short riders would also feel it welcoming. At first sight the bike weight feels to be concentrated at front but it comes out to be 50:50.
Also the exhaust note comes out to be a normal quarter-litre segment bike type. Nothing special on this side.
The bike is welcoming to the tourers as it comes with a good 17 litres tank.
The handling of the bike comes out to be really great and nimble as having a kerb weight of 179 kgs keeping in check!! One can really play with this mean machine on track.Put it in corners and the bike will never show you signs of disability thanking it's diamond frame.
Finally, summing it up, the bike comes out to have a long list of pros and a small ones of cons.......
Pros:
1) All the cons of the bike can be compromised for it's unmatched performance in the segment.
2) The refinement and the NVH levels are always in check ready to impress you.
3) The styling, now coming in two colour options adds to it's looks.
4) Now with ABS, the bike controls very well and handles as ordered to!!
5) The range of the bike is adequate for touring with a 17 litres tank.
6) The bike is priced at 3 lakhs and comes out to be a value for money.
Cons:
1) The instrument cluster of the bike is readable but misses the gear indicator.
2) The wind screen/visor is shorter and cannot control windblasts aat greater speeds.
At the end overall the bike is a marvel from the stable of kawasaki to the quarter-litre segment and a 3 lakh pricing is quiet reasonable.
Always wear a helmet while riding. Ride responsibly, be safe!!
PS: The test was conducted at Kawasaki Nagpur Showroom.
