    Hi guys,

Just couple of months back I shifted to Bangalore from Delhi...I am missing delhi frns and roads badly here but there is some thing more which is bothering me...It is my lack of knowledge of the state language...kannada...

I was browsing over net to find out some tutorials and similar things but found tutorials very basic and hard to learn...At the same time I found one website which works as platforms where people can share there languages...the site seems a paid one but the idea is great...Nothing can help you better in learning any thing other than the practicals...I am sure all bikers will agree on that...

I am keenly interested in learning kannada, at least up to level which gives me confidence to talk to any local guy in their language comfortably...Language is not a problem in bangalore, everyone knows english and many Hindi too...But as you move out side bangalore the scenario changes., specially in outskirts and not so developed palces for trips...

And the joy of talking to ppl on their very own language is what I want to feel...It's happened many a times when I asked some boddy about some address and he started in kannada, and I cound't say "kannada illa"..I don't know why I do so but I feel good on not saying these two words and get more determined to learn it ASAP...

I propose If we provide such a platform, and ofcourse free of service , where member can tell other in what languages then can help other memebers... This will give guys like me some references, to take help from...and later then can fixup how are they planning to do it..

Let this run as a thread of similar thing and let members tell in what language they can help other members...and let them mention the language they are seeking help in..

I believe this will serve a great purpose...when I was in delhi I had never thought of it but now I realise how badly I need kannda guys interested in sharing language...I could have done classes here but that may not be possible to many in many places...and nothing can replace the hands on experience provided by vetrans...

    Wish every onw Happy Learning....!!!

    Off-Topic Approved

    @Deepak-Very good stuff.

We can start of with some basic lines which a tourer/biker will need in different states.

      Nice Idea
But not only Kannada. We need to have this type of thread for several languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali. If we merge every other language in the same thread then it might create confusion. What say?

@Sumit-We can start off with a single thread with all the languages and depending upon the response we(MODS) can make separate threads.

Deepak welcome to Bangalore, My honest suggestion, you are living in Bangalore now, although online tutorials/recordings do help, but nothing beats acutal conversation and yeah specially dealing with cops can be troublesome. In addition to this thread you should:

-Involve you collegues/friends/neighbours/anyone else whom you can talk to and start your conversation in Kannada and then see how quickly/easily you will be able to pick up the language.
-If you are regular in xBhp meets, use this oppourtunity to learn more words and meanings and pronunciation. Bug the Bangalore xBhpains , and may be you guys can have a 'Lets learn kannda' meet too.
-Try an listen/watch local channels/FM stations and may be plays too. Use dictionary if you dont have any companion.
-Listen how people speak to each other in public places specially the accent and try and pick them up.

and rest of the things can easily asked by people here in xBhp too.

IMVHO one should learn the local laguage, even one lives there for a week, it helps you termendously, especially in troubled times and people wholeheartdly welcome you if you know and respect there language.

my experience is ,south indians can understand and learn hindi very fast(ahem..except tamils) and north indians find it very tough to learn dravidian languages.
I have seen surprised north indians here(kerala) ,who expects hindi is known everywhere.
But Banglore is different.the capital of a state with millions of konkani, marathi speakers(who can talk hindi easy) and also tulu ,kannada and tamil means it is a multilingual state and people.most kannadigas I met can speak in hindi or tamil fluently for sure.

I know very less kannada although I can understand it very well.I stayed for a short span of 3 months in mangalore in karnataka and learned this(kannada seems very similar to tamil except for the sanskrit/urdu words).
                  Anyways -Kannada :
                  Chennagitha? (Are you fine?)
Kudh Koli (sit down) or "Iri"
Ninna Hesaru Enoo?(what is your name?)
Bangalore Ke bus eshthu khande ke?(what time is the banglore bus coming?)
Nanage aythu bhaashe gothu (I know 5 languages)

                  Tamil:
Eppadi Swami?Soukhyama( How are you dear?fine?)
                  Ukkarunga(sit please)
                  Un Peyar Enna?(whats your name?)
Madras ku Bus Ethana manikku?(at what time bus towards madras comes?)
Enakku Anchu mozhikale Theriyum(I know 5 languages).

                  and Malayalam(My Native):
                  Namaskaram ,Sukhamalle?(Are you fine?)
                  Irikkoo( sit down)
                  Thaangalude Per Enthaanu?(whats your name?)
Ernakula-thinu Bus Ethra Manikkan?(at what time bus for ernakulam(kochin) comes?

Enikku Anchju Bhaashakal Ariyaam(I know 5 languages).

thats all folks for now .
