  • Convince The family For Sbk's..

well it might be very off topic..
But now days i am suffering from this problem, when ever i try to convince my family for a bike, (planning for Daytona 675).
my dad reply me giving the example of "Azar's Son".. that he too got a Superbike and now X_X.

I already have Volkswagen Vento and hyundai i10 and they are ready to give me a new car of any price which they claim and i also trust they can, but point is that they are not ready to give me a bike.
Is there any way to convince them for the bike, i have shown them the gears, helmet everything from dsgplanet.com and even shown them some sbk crash of motogp making the point that they don't get hurt But they got a bad impression from that "azar's son".. Any good way to convince them, please help me.

Best idea would be to wait a few month till the azar's son thing in ur house cools down,
once they have more or less forgotten about it just come home one day wid an sbk borrowed from any of ur friends and take the person you know u can convince faster than everyon1 else in the house for a ride to make them feel that it isnt any different than ur regular bike's.
If u can convince ur mom by this method then the odds would be in your favour

Even better idea is to buy a ride or drive (whatever) when you start making an income on your own so that you don't need to be under anyone's mercy, be it buying it or spending maintenance for it!!!

point your family out what azahar's son did wrong.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

If you can't convince your family how anybody else can

If you are earning, then go ahead and buy one. (Not taking an arrogant stand here though, some things have to be DONE in order to be convincing) Ride safely and slowly they'll come to terms with it.

I have "suffered" this exact problem for long, and can guarantee you that the problem will persist even if you somehow manage to convince them and buy a sbk.
When after years of cajoling, convincing, negotiating, and threatening, I finally bought a used sbk, even then all of the above was done with me and was forced to sell it off. But the bike was worth all the trouble.
And everything is being repeated now as I also have an eye on the 675. And it is not just about a sbk, but they wouldn't let me buy even a 100cc bike.

@ aargee: It is not always about who is paying, but about respecting your parents wishes. I don't need my parents money to buy a bike, but still have to respect that whatever they are saying is for my own safety.

There are only four outcomes of this situation:
You buy a bike with thier consent
You buy a bike without thier consent
You dont buy a bike due to lack of consent
You dont buy a bike despite thier consent

Off these the first two are the logical favourable (for you) outcomes.

No matter what you do, both these outcomes would always mean that if you have the slightest of issues with the machine your folks would *snap* and say, "See! we told you" ... they would either say this to you while you are alive and in one peice or.... nevermind that..

Assuming you value your life and are a very safe rider (which is fairly contradictory to what we see from your avatar pic) it shouldnt be too difficult to convince your family on why you would still be safe on a bike. If I were you I would NEVER show them a motogp crash.

Assuming you avatar is a direct representation of what sort of a rider you are, try and work that in your favour. Prove them on how you are safe while you stunt. How stunting means having a control on the bike and with 0 incidence what so ever (assuming youve had 0 incidence) and then it should be a breeze.

Else nothing stops you from working hard, earning money, and buying a bike (and yet we hope you do the right thing)

I guess the situation is similar everywhere and parents will always be parents when it comes to buying a bike.

I have also got suggestions to buy a NANO instead of buying a 1 Lac plus bike. For this suggestion how do u convince them that 2 wheels move the soul where as 4 wheels only move the body. It has to be experienced.

Janesh, not really a big deal. Nano is the spoil sport here but it really cant be blamed.

On a good day, get down to them and talk it all out. Try and make them understand that its passion and nothing else.

My case, however, was different. My folks dont understand the word Passion so whenever we went on a drive, I'd drive like a drunkard. And when my Dad and I were on the bike, I was the most loyal abider of the traffic law. He eventually gave in thinking I could never learn how to drive.

Irony is, last night I went to the station to collect both my sisters coming from their in-laws and almost simultaneously my sisters claimed "Nonu's driving is so smooth!" to which my Dad realised it was all my nautanki to get the bike. And we all had a good laugh.

Dont try the same, MIGHT not work for you. Instead, think hatke. Good luck!

Dude if there worry is your safety and not the money then i am sorry no one can convince them....

even if you buy an SBK without their consent and you give them each and every proof that you will ride safe and everything... even then the moment you climb on the saddle you will be able to see the worry in your parent's eyes... the thing is they have seen way too many accidents in their vicinity to agree for an SBK....

and then again just think about them and what they will feel every time you are on an SBK once before you take any decision regarding a big motorcycle....

You can tell them that people die on normal bikes too, and tell them that they can decide on certain promises you'll make, in order for you to get such a sportsbike. Tell them to talk to you, about all promises they want you to make. (like I won't overtake harshly, won't ride full throttle, won't stunt, etc.)

Give them some statistics that are tilted in your favor. You know, lies, damned lies and statistics. Tell them, that in India only 35 out of 1000 vehicles meet with an accident (true figures), and the figure is lower for sports-bikes due to better grip and brakes on them.

Tell them that people notice an Sbk better so won't crash into it. Common bike goes unnoticed & trampled.

BUT if nothing else works, maybe you should try dropping your idea of a sportsbike and tell them you want a good quality streetbike, and try getting something like GT650R, GT650, Ninja 650, etc. Its fun enough for most purposes you'll use it for.
Something is better than nothing, ain't so?
