  • Justice for Kshma Chopra (killed in a BMW Car crash in Gurgaon)

How many lives will be taken before the justice system India sets an example by giving the maximum punishment for killing someone while enjoying a high speed drive on Indian roads? Another incident which happened a week ago left three people dead, one of them yet to be born. Dreams shattered. A dead end for all their family members. The accused is the driver of the car with number HR 26 AV 0007. The driver was the son of Its owner is Devendra Sherawat, also a resident of Sector 14 and a property dealer. Allegedly, Now there is a massive cover up being planned with the help of police and money.

***There is a silent march at IFFCO chowk (Gurgaon, the site of the accident) today happening at 6PM. ***

I request all media people, or if someone knows the truth to put pressure on police and bring the culprit to justice.

Not only this, it just reinforces the fact that you cant ignore events like these just because they didnt happen to you. It is just a matter of time and luck when someone influential with a 'James bond' numberplate comes and crashes into you.

Too much power BMW, R1, or any high powered vehicle in hands of ignorant is disaster, it is child play And toy for them but costing life for others.

Not only that lad but his parent should also be accountable for this. As they are more ignorant than him.

It is not about vehicle but the ignorance & ego and false pride still not confirming to their mistake & feeling no remorse at all. they should not allowed to........

    We should give them signals.

Its time for xbhp to take a leading role in these matters. We as bikers are directly effected by the rich boys with their toys.

Today its a family who we do not know. Tomorrow it could be any one of us, in any part of the country.

The pressure that society as a whole can apply is far more influential than money of an individual. Lets stand together and fight these fools. In whatever our individual and collective capacity.

My wishes with the family of the victims.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

First of all my sincere condolences to the victims family. Yes, justice should prevail, no matter how powerful or moneyed the alleged accused are. No 2 ways about that. The law is suppose to be impartial and without prejudice & it should function as such in a successful democracy.

However, (this is my personal view & not meant as a offense to anyone), I think the issue is being marginalized as rich vs. poor, the haves vs. the have nots. The issue is far far larger and as a society this issue has far reaching and alarming effects on our society, it's values and beliefs are today in question and is a reflection of how we value life and treat our fellow citizens.

Instead of ranting about how the rich are getting away, we need to ask our selves (and I mean every single one of us) how much do we value life as individuals and as a society. We treat driving and use of road as a right (a fundamental right at that) and not as a privilege. Everyday we as individuals and as a society abuse this privilege. Traffic rules are broken with alarming casual attitude. Use of cell phone, dark coloured films, no seat belts, small children unrestrained in the car, incessant honking, no consideration for other driver's right of way, the list goes on and on. We as a society have very very casual attitude to rules, laws and use of road.

The unfortunate event is not something that happens only in a luxury car like BMW, it could happen with any vehicle. A Maruti 800 is just as capable of doing 100 kms as a BMW. The trill of speed kills and the price paid by the victims and their families is very heavy and cannot be judge in monetary terms.

A matured and evolved society values life and teaches its young generation the value of every single citizen. It teaches it's young generation to value rule of the law and justice for all. It teaches it's young the value of empathy and consideration for the less fortunate and how as a society these values are their future and their very existence depends on them.

Unfortunately, we we seem to have driftted a long way away from what our founding fathers had envisaged for us.

Sorry for OT but Its funny how we advocate capital punishment to drivers BEFORE we push for jaywalking laws. If a certain pedestrian doesn't care about his/her life enough to cross the street carefully. Why do we single out the people with the more powerful / expensive / bigger vehicles? Do Maruti Alto and 800 have an absoultely kill-free record? Do Accidents caused by cheaper vehicles cause absolutely no damage? If anything, the more expensive and newer vehicles come with more pedestrian safety features which will help save lives in case of a Mistake.

The only way to understand such a situation unbiasedly is to put yourself in the Driver's shoes. You are doing 60kmph in a 70kmph zone and are passing a stationary bus, suddenly someone starts crossing the road from ahead of the aforementioned bus and comes right in your path 5 meters ahead. How do you save that poor S/DOB? We are lucky that bikes generally carry less momentum because of much lower weight and so the chances of the pedestrian surviving are higher, though death is still possible, as amply demonstrated in the incident near Lonavala when the GIR2 team was headed towards Big Wheels Motoring Cafe for Mumbai-Pune Mega G2G (That incident did not make it to the papers BTW). But cars/buses/trucks do not have the luxury of physics being on their side and can most certainly cause much greater damage. It is time we understood that it is not always the Driver / Rider's fault.

Now don't argue with me with arguments like "Whoever's fault it was, a life was lost". Because then even the first person who reached the scene of accident or You and me who were not even there, should also be held responsible for the accident. Because it wasn't our fault either and a life was well and truly lost. My point here is, punish the person who was at fault, not the person who happened to be at the wrong time at the wrong place just by chance. Eg. The Engine driver of a train is not punished if a train crushes people illegally crossing the railway tracks.

We must never forget that nobody crashes on purpose (As long as there is no Road Rage involved). Even though there are Zero-Depreciation Insurance policies now, it still hurts if you have an accident, even more if a life is lost.

Anyways coming back to topic, I demand justice for the people who were killed in Road accidents all over the country by Jeeps, Tractors, Maruti Altos and 800s. BUT I also demand justice for all Car/Motorcycle/Bus/Truck Drivers/Riders who were manhandled, harrased and traumatized by the locals and the police for no fault of theirs. Cars like the Maruti Swift and Wagon Rs can also reach speeds of 150kmph (as in this particular incident) Why didn't those incidents make the news? Why sensationalize just the 'Safer' cars? Last I checked, it wasn't a crime to look after others' and your own safety. And lastly, what scientific equipment did the media use to ascertain that the BMW was in fact going along at 150kmph?

Have to agree with all that you have said. Notice how the media degenerates these debates into a frenzy for blood. Sometimes it feels like a modern version of wild west where some one is accused of stealing a horse and is lynched and strung up just because he came into town on a nice stallion and has gold in his pocket.

Its hard to say whether the BMW was actually at 150kmph (though quite possible considering the stretch) however, the Indigo was crossing that road. If i am not wrong - the right of way in India is for the vehicle on the straight road - not the one crossing the road. Its bloody common sense too naa -- if i see a mad BMW ripping down the road - will i jump right in front of it!
Leaving all that aside - its very hard to say who was at fault.
Yes - the whole context is tragic - a pregnant wife - and the media has picked up this story precisely for this reason - rich boy snuffing out the life of a poor pregnant woman - Guaranteed to raise some BPs, tap the anger against the more fortunate, give something to do to those useless "reporters and most importantly - raise some TRPs.
By the way all that "justice for <any new sensational news item of the week>" crap has been going on for quite sometime now. Sometime back the alleged perpetrators of the Aarushi murder case (currently in jail) were holding candles at India gate demanding "Justice for Aarushi" while the whole media managed campaign was going wild with all the interviews etc.

The point here is not that rich vs poor, but it is how a highroller can easily put forward a 'driver'(anyone) 'who was driving the car' instead of his son...
How easily any one who has just killed can get bail, how the police take its time to come for forensic investigation the 2nd day.
And it does not matter whether the media is airing this news to gain points but as long as they do it, it is helpful.
And it is not that only people with a silverspoon in their mouth drive rashly but it happens with a guy/gal with a Maruti 800 (but the main difference is the one with money has confidence that he won't be touched he just have to 'fled' from the site and other things like the arrangement for a 'driver' would be done)...
And the most shocking thing is that the family tries to hide and lie for a child who has killed someone...

I like in Gurgaon and constantly feel what a s#!t place NCR is to live, with all these crimes and no justice...

Capital Punishment should be given to those who commit these crimes(not all but definitely deserve it)... though it is not the rarerest of the rare but definitely pre-meditated...

                    I agree with your point

Accident is accident (Could be carelessness of either side)

Media is just blowing the trumpet only when a bigger car hits...do they get to extract money from those riches??

Look at how many hit and run cases happen, mid night races, illegal draggers...illegal mods

where does media go when these kind of stuff happens

You guys are forgetting one thing here. In other cases, police are, most of the time, active enough to arrest the accused but when it involves high & mighty, they try to cover up, do shoddy investigations. Here a poor driver is being passed on the blame, apparently, when in fact that SOB was driving the car.

You may say what not but someone acquires a high end car like BMW, MERC, Audi etc, we expect the driver to be sensible enough. Rather I have seen most of them not giving indications while turning!!! These cars have the maximum technology to avoid an accident but due to the utter ignorance & feeling of "I own INDIA" you will see these a hole getting bail/escaping jail sentences.
You or me do the same thing & police will shove a lathi up your/my ass.
                      Nukerable cases like this.
Nanda, Salman & many many more...

everyone should get justice includiing five women who died because of alto, but first facts must be established -- who's fault was it?

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.... I've been at the receiving end of such morons not once, not twice but thrice. And each and every time I've done my best to save them and ensured that they escaped without damage but at what cost to me? 1 car totally ruined and sold as scrap. 1 broken leg resulting in a operation with a long metal piece stuck in my leg and being bed ridden for 4 months and my brother ending up with scars all over him. These assholes not only endanger their lives by jaywalking but also of tens of people around them. Now I am actually scared to ride fast and end up watching the dividers more than enjoying the ride or drive.

And I'm not apologetic about the abuse. Anyone who has had to suffer because of such idiots will understand my sentiments.
