  • Need advise - Buying a decent digital piano for learning purpose

    hi,

I am looking to buy a digital piano for learning purpose. I am based in Delhi and my budget is around Rs.20-25k. Usage will be almost personal (nursery rhymes etc.) but could also use it during choir at the church, once i get a proficient and confident in playing. I intend to keep it for as long as i can. Once i get a hang of playing it i shall include my son along.

I have heard only a couple of older models of Yamahal (PSR-550) almost 10 yrs back and i kinda liked their sound especially the grand piano. I have not heard a real grand piano except on TV hence cannot differentiate the original with the digital. I love the sound of grand Piano and will be mostly using this tone only.

I assume that there are many here on xbhp who love and play musical instruments especially the piano. Hence would like advise / suggestions from such enthusiasts on which model will fit my budget.

Approved even though this is way off topic from anything to do with biking
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Have been playing piano for 10+ years . I would't suggest putting 20k at the start , as you might loose interest ( its really boring at the start !! ) . Besides there wasn't much differences in the sounds and styles in the PSR series , when I last played them . They basically have the same sounds which are more refined . Of course higher models will have additional sounds and styles as well . Go to a store and check them out yourself . My suggestion would be PSR E333 . Otherwise you could go for 1425 .

If you are really interested in learning , check out Delhi School of Music in Chanakyapuri . Its a nice place . Piano and keyboards are taught as separate instruments . You could choose what you like more .

Thanks mate for your reply. I will go to the stores to get a feel of it. I did check the online review of the PSR-E-333 and it sounds good. I was also looking at the Casio CTK-6000 and this one looks more VFM considering it has the 16 track recording also available. What do you think?

Haven't used Casio keyboards . But the CTK 6000 looks quite good on paper and has a lot more features like the tone editor . The registration feature will also be useful if you're planning to use it in church . This enables you to save the settings for up to 32 songs . I remember writing down the setups for hymns in a diary . You had to rush and set it up in time for the next hymn .

Don't look much into the recording feature , you can plug your keyboard to your computer / laptop and do a better job with free software available on the internet .

Overall it seems to be a good choice .

Thanks mate. You have brought me one step closer in finalizing by decision. And also thanks for explaining the registration feature that is one nice feature.
