Now when i look around what those friends are doing. Almost all of them gave up riding and moved to a car or settled with a 150-200cc machine with no plans to upgrade to a higher cc machine. Ironically i became a biker and probably only one among my friends who will buy a big bike. I was wondering what went wrong with them.

Lately i have been missing those long rides with my buddies. I realized only two of us (me and friend #1) still have left our biker soul intact. I was wondering what went wrong. How come these guys who swore by being a hardcore biker for life gave up riding despite having no responsibilities and having good disposable income? They are still unmarried and 25-26 Years old.
What was the things these people wanted that bikes failed to offer. Why did they moved to car for their commutes. Stopped going for long rides. Have you guys ever felt such change in yourself or your riding buddies?

Going for long rides, playing video games no longer works as a stress buster, maybe i finally grew up.

Coming to the point of upgrading, I don't know if i will be able to convince (or justify) my family for the jump to a liter class after 650. With new responsibilities coming soon. This could be my only superbike i'll ever own. (or atleast for next 6-8 years, option of upgrade seems unlikely). This is where confusion starts, jump directly to a liter class or will 650 keep me happy with my above mentioned usage. I would've waited 1 more year to save some more moolah for a fireblade/ninja 1000. But in current situation, I am sure my upcoming responsibilities and pressure from family would kill off my dream eventually if i wait any longer.

Darn, Thanks for pointing out, I finally know the answer. Never imagined life would teach me so soon. Anyways, I got married 5 months ago. My CBR 250R was mostly sitting idle (as long as 2 weeks without being ridden). I have to pick and drop my wife to her office so daily commute duties have been taken by a cage and her Jupiter (mostly carrying veggies under its seat). CBR was sitting idle, being used like 3 times a month. Wifey finally convinced me to sell her off. What went wrong? I don't know she used to love the long rides on my bike when we were in college. Maybe we all grew up (except me?)
There is no destination, I just want to keep riding.

Re: Rants: What happens to seemingly passionate bikers - Moving from bikes to cars - Image of bikers

I've been quite inactive on xbhp for the past few months. Now, I got a notification (subscribed) from this thread, and saw a few other posts by you in some other threads, I really want to say this.

No one knows how one's interests would change. It can be unpredictable and happen in an unimaginably short period of time.

Neither I ever thought I'd find love in bikes, nor I know if (and when) I'd fall out of love (though I don't want to, as of now) for bikes one day. I was browsing randomly and I came across a pic of the GSX S750. I wanted to own it, now matter how much money and how many years it'd take. It was the exact moment I started loving bikes. I saw the spec sheet and it made zero sense to me at that time. I neither knew what inline 4 meant nor did I how powerful is 100+ bhp. I started digging further and slowly learnt about bikes. Now, I'm at a stage where I can do basic maintenance of a bike.

It seems that you used your CBR 250R very less over the past few months. It is highly unlikely that you'd use your new pre-owned superbike at the same frequency as the CBR in the past few months, if not by any lesser frequency. I'd say that your requirements, as stated by you in the other thread, still doesn't qualify owning a superbike. Any 300-400cc bike will meet all your criteria except for the inline 4 sound. I'm not in any way discouraging you from getting a superbike but basically it seems that the only purpose of a superbike, if you buy it, will be bragging rights. I do understand your interest, but still, spending that much on bragging rights doesn't seem that much practical. Sorry, if I've misunderstood you in any way.

After blasting my bike (a humble Apache 200), at higher RPMs (between the peak torque RPM and peak power RPM, the best part of the powerband), I've never felt a need for more power, except on highways. I only wish it had better brakes. Now, after being someone who wanted badly to own a GSX S750, I've come down to I'll be better with something of the 300-400cc at most. Maybe I'll own the GSX S750 (now I also have an eye on Street Triple 765) some day, only for bragging rights, but I'm sure that I'll no day be able to utilize it's power to the fullest extent.

What about rain suit like this? I rarely see people wearing these, but I think that's a pretty decent option.

Being in India with these road conditions, comfort is the first criteria. Sure I love riding bikes, we can flick bikes through traffic but the roads, traffic jams makes me prefer a car more than a bike because of the comfort. I can sit all day long in a car in the middle of a jam but gets frustrated very quickly on a bike in a 15 minutes jam. I just want to shove my bike wherever I can and get out of it. All thanks to pollution, honking, heat etc.
Well, the way you described it sounds pretty horrible, but I can understand that. Though choosing a car instead of bike is a matter of priority for me. I have a family van and that's it. Riding a bike is purely a hobby which I miss. Nowadays I spend more time in garage tuning both my car and bike, oh well.

Looks like I came across this thread at the right time. I'm 22 and have started riding a year back. Motorcycling gave me the very independence I needed. I see these older members in my family who can't even change flat tyres and surprisingly have Automobile engineering degrees. I can say it with a certain conviction that I won't have these problems when I grow up (if I do[emoji23]). Though I have no plans of marraige, motorcycling has and always will have a special place in my heart.

Slowly over the years I became one of them. I haven't ridden my CBR650F in last 3 months. Only fire her up once in 2 weeks, warm up for 5 mins then cover it up. I have started to find excuses not to ride. Every sunday morning, I wake up and tell myself, 'Its too hot out there', 'It may rain today', 'I dont have any riding buddies left', 'maybe next sunday'.
There is no destination, I just want to keep riding.

I'm proud to say:- At age 37 & even after marriage, I still ride my Duke 390. For everything I do. Commuting, touring & off roading.
That's despite knowing very well how to drive cars and despite owning one(!).

After around 1.3 Lakh kms, I recently rebuilt my 2013 Duke 390 and it still goes strong with around 7000 kms on the new engine. And in this small city I live in, the way this bike dominates anything around it.. you can't ask for too much more.

I cross the entire city in around 18 minutes of morning commute, without overspeeding, or crossing 80 kmph anywhere, and way back, its the same story. First, its an urban commute, then a huge circular lake shore, through some smooth roads, some more urban roads. And viola, I'm at my destination.

And I know I'll keep riding, if I'll keep living, for some more years at least... Elders like psr sir and Olx Fox sir are doing it easy, an inspiration to all of us.
                    Then, what's stopping me?
