Been idle at home for a few months now since finishing graduation ( BCS - Bachelor in Computer Science , now named BSc Computer Science ) . I;ve also done a coupe of software courses ( programming and administration , and software testing ) . Shouldve done a masters too but education isn;t cheap .
All the companies want experienced guys . With first class throughout . Hardly do I see an ad for freshers . How does a fresher get experience if no one hires him ? Or were all thos HR guys born with a frigging degree and knowledge of all programming languages ? You gotta learn , and learning is most profound when you know why you learn what you learn . And that why is never answered in college , in theory . That's why even the best students forget what they learnt in college .
The hardest thing to find these days is your first job . India is so overpopulated and saturated that IT cos can pick and choose from dozens of potentials for one seat ; everyone wants a first class BE or MCA-MCS graduate . Eduaction isn't cheap either , not is it really effective from a career POV .
Spoke to some people who've done MCM ( master in computer management ) - turns out they don't have any different subjects ( C , S/W development lifecyle , Oracle , )except one business related one compared to BCS , yet the damn stamp of having a post graduate degree gets them jobs . Just the stamp . Some big companies even choose engineers - mech , prodcution , who aren't computer science students , just for the stamp of engineer .
I used to have a few BE Computer Science friends , all distinction chaps - and they too said what is taught in college is mostly not of use or far inadequate ; one only actually learns when you start working . And they too had forgotten much of what they learn in college , except what they used on the job . What is taught in college is not even 5% of the total . Just enough to begin , to enable students to continue independently one the basics are taught .
And does anyone remember that over 50% of college professors themselves failed in State/National eligibility tests for professors ? In the very subjects they taught ?
Hell , one of our professors learnt something from me once about writing Oracle queries . If they themselves are so unlearned , how are they teaching us ? And does anyone know how much cheating there is in exams ? Many of my classmates passed and even got good marks this way - and they didn;t really know much more than me . And yet our employers want to see the marksheet and rely so much on it .
My cousin too is a BE Computer Science , now he's working , having finished training in a company and tooped his training batch . But earlier he'd been for a company interview , where the techincal folsk were happy with his skills , knowdledge , performance . He should have got the job - but didn't . HR guys said he had a year down in engineering . Stupid reason , especially when technical guys are happy with him , turning him down for the job was stupid .
I'm no genius with computers , I admit I don;t know half as much as my cousin but I know when you actually start working is when you actually start learning . And don;t these guys understand motivation ? Heck anyone wil learn with suffiecient motivation and incentive . Like a salary .
I tried to get myself to practice more programming at home . Doesnt work . Too many distractions . No salary . But had I been employed , the salary and the environment would help me learn much much faster .
What do I know ? C , C++ , VB6 , ASP , CGO-Perl , HTML/DHTML , Javascript , VBScript , Oracle 8 , PL/SQL , COBOL , NT serve administration , IIS , MTS , Site server adminsitration . The syllabus isn't very comprehensive but learn enough to grow and learn .
Did even learn VC++ but the teacher himself was poor at it so I don;t know jacksh!t about VC++ , not even a bare basic program , but heck if my job requires it I'll spend nights up learning VC++ .
I keep hearing so much about soft skills and human relations beign big things these days . Bull**** . HR chaps are nothin but asslickers . All they do is look as marksheets in an sysem proven inefficient and incapable of turning out a capable workforce . They don't even realise that the fundamental reason for human succesi adaptability . Give even a Arts student 6 months training in programming and if he's good , he'll surpass engineers in programming . All it needs is time , commitment and incentive .
But the employers want readymade workers who know everything .
Some years back an ad " Think out of the box " was aired by a s/w company . Fools don;t even realise that our very education system it trying to force every student to conform to poor standards and trying to put each and every student into a box . The very same box these companys claim to want to think out of .
Gentlemen - this is how they create virus writers and hackers . I bet there are 14 year old kids who'll run rings around their best experiences programmers , yet these companies still want a consistent excellent academic record with a BE/MCS/MCA degree .
Einstein , Newton , Edison - all academically poor but went on tobecome great scientists . Yet people never learn . For every Einstein , there are perhaps 5 more Einsteins that never got the opportunity to excel and died , wasted brains and all . Only becasue the people around them in power failed to recognise that beneath all the dull layers of skin lies a brain that could change the world . Only because some people are too stupid to recognise another's intellect .
Any surprise why you find some really awesome brains turn to crime ?
I guess I might as well become a human answering machine and pick up any call centre job and use the money I earn to learn to write viruses and hacking . If they can't put my mind to good use , I have no choice but to put it to bad use .
Go on , hire more academically well off chaps who might do well in theory but not necessarily in reality , go on , hire more reservation quota for girls who wil eventually leave that job but nevertheless keep some guys from getting the seats that matter . But if I'm half the genius my good friends think I am , those companies are going to get a good lesson from losers like me someday . You create your bed , you sleep in it.

), i dont know but i think i saw ur resume somewhere, some suggestions from me :
