  • being presentable and being a biker ??

hey guys ..i dont know how long this thread is going to last but ever wondered how can we maintain a presentable get up after being a hardcore biker ?
i dont want to convey that i want to look like SRK but we all use our bikes for day-to-day work/job/college or whatever !! my girlfriend always used to ask me to wash my face and she used to carry a hair gel so when we go out i can apply it after removing my helmet well its not about shes was very stylish or anything but just wanted me to look normal and NOT a soldier or a biker ..

i have noticed that where ever i go ..
people just wonder whether i have landed from the second world war ..
i mean my face becomes oily .. hair[its spiky] becomes flat like a express way and whenever i wear a white shirt it becomes the Opposite colour
so how do we keep our hair and face PRESENTABLE [lets leave the cloths aside as we have no option other than a jacket]
the question may be funny but come on .. who doesnt wanna be a good looking biker ?
many people suggesting me using a car BUT DUHH ... i have work to do. i dont have time to sit in traffic with my AC running

ps- i am not diverting myself and my fellow xbhpians from biking but just posting a relaxing thread s

Nothing can be done about the hair. Om bike, you can either save the head by wearing helmet, or the hair by not wearing the helmet. For face, if you put balaclava under your helmet, that acts best. I have just started to use it, and the face remains much clean after the ride. For shirt, you'll have to wear a jacket, but it will crumple the shirt. The only way around will be to reach 10 mins early, and pack your clothes with you to wear once you reach.

Remember, when on bike, don't dress for the wedding, dress for the crash!

Dude, i really care about my get-up when reaching a place on my bike, but unfortunately cos of the traffic, dust, mud, sweat, irritation caused by fellow passers and posers on the road, finally i end-up landing as if i was just discharged from a retarted home. hair just running flat cos of a lid, all kinds of dust and mud seen in hands, shirts turning to devils colour And still no solution for this till now!!!

If I'm not going to office, I don't really care about how I look.
While going to office, I use a cheap Rs.20 cotton helmet cap, which really helps a lot for the hair.
I put a cheap wristband onto my left shoe to avoid tearing off the expensive leather.
At the slightest hint of rain, I put on my jacket&no, the formal shirt doesn't get crumpled by the jacket.
Btw, ride with your visor closed-your face will remain fresh!

              my suggestions
              1. always take your gf with you... so that every time you stop .. she makes you presentable
              2. dont wear white shirt / t - shirt
              3. shave off your hair .. infact your helmet will be like a perfect fit and no problems also

Well I have tried few things.

For my hair, I either tie a hanky or something on my head and then wear the helmet. Balclava should be able to serve the purpose but I am not sure how tight fit is a balclava. If its too tight it will ruin the hair. Secondly, keep a comb ready. You can also buy a small Rs. 10 brylcream tube if you want to .

For the face, again put a Balclava or a hanky around till your nose. Keep a pack of wet tissue if you are going to some important place, like interview or any function.

For the clothes, get a windcheater. It is not tight. It is not heavy. But will protect your clothes. On the downside you cannot wear a protective jacket. But, I guess you can ride a little slowly and safely when your clothes matter .

I'll be honest. I have seen any bikers calling themselves hardcore bikers but they look like they haven't took a shower for weeks. And I hate those who smoke on top of this . Be a biker but be presentable. So, a little care and grooming is a must for everyone of us .

@Ranjit: Not everyone knows the traits and looks of a biker. I would love to look presentable rather than being tagged a week smoker , gross, uncool and even a dirty pig. Trust me, I have heard these terms for bikers.

same here...but here in TVM we sometimes need to open visor a bit to let some more air in. but it is not for freshness....when its raining heavily I dont ride out, as ppl [pedestrains] over here have very high respect for the riders especially when it rains.......

My skin is oily anywez..and riding for even small time in sun used to make my face too much oily.. not much prob in winter.. When I was in Pune, I had to ride to Kalyani Nagar for my work. I used to head straight to wash room to clean my face.. I ride my bike with helmet's visor closed..so not much dust prob..but oil.. Hair prob still remains.. I used to wet them and adjust with hands only.. I used to wear jacket everyday..so not much prob with shirt/t-shirt. But in rainy season shoes used to get pretty dirty..they used look.. yuck..

Now that am back to Mumbai, I often go to Pune to spend the day with my GF... and that's wher the probs starts.. No issues when we go for ride out side the city.. but when decide to spend the day in city.. it's terrible.

when I enter any mall or restaurant with my GF with those flat hair..oily face people really think that I've just come back from some war.. Therefore whenever possible I carry a comb and before going anywher after reaching pune I go to a nice petrol pump/restaurant where there's wash room and get fresh..

                          Nice topic Sam..
