  • Stop killing cows

First of all , I want to please request the moderators to approve this thread just for the sake of those million lives which are being killed everyday.although my topic might appear awkward to post on XBHP but i still want to post here and the reason is in the below lines.

One point that i read on XBHP(on a thread) is that some or all(i donot know exactly) riding gears are made from leather.
Now, before i read that post, i never knew that riding gears are also made of leather. and the time i read it i was totally shaken.
Its because for our protection, we are indirectly killing lives of those animals. I am very much disappointed that even though we people are so much educated. but then too we intentionally are doing SIN,, unforgiven SIN. and this all just for our clothing.

Sorry, for going a little OFFTOPIC, but i myself "Abhishek" have joined an association or you can call it an "AANDOLAN", which is working on awaring people on this cruel crime of KILLING COW'S for only our satisfaction of buying Leather jackets,Purses and other fashionable items.

I always avoided using products that took of animal lives, including leather. I am not so cruel to kill a cow merely to use its skin. Cows, and other animals(horses, sheep, lambs, goats and pigs), have certain rights, including the right to not be killed for Human satisfaction.
Is it that only Humans have the right to live on This mighty planet "EARTH".

Now, if some of the people still have some doubts such as
1).Why we should-not kill them, even those Lions,Wolves, other carnivores kill them for their food then why we cannot??
I would like to answer in simple words that "These animals are forced to adopt it, i mean they survive on the lives of those animals. But do we??"
A lion would not kill a cow,... for Making a leather jacket from its skin, and for making a Leather purse for keeping his items?. would it.

    Now, coming to the facts
Unfortunately, India is one of the largest exporter of "Cow skins" after China.
and most of the exported skins are sold to US. Infact India and China are the largest supplier from which US government buyies these thing.

Its moment of absolute sadness that India where we call COW as mother
I plead in front of all Xbhpian's that please stop using those Leather things just for the sake of your mental pleasure.

Thanks for taking out some valuable moments out your precious time for my topic.!

    Regards.
    ABHISHEK

Agree - I do not condone killing of animals only for the use of their hides. But most of the time, animal hides are by products of slaughter for meat, be it sheep or cow, with the only exception here being Kangaroo leather.

The riding gear industry uses cowhide due to its excellent abrasion resistance quality and breathability, which unfortunately most of the synthetics available today do not possess. Leather is any day better than mesh when it comes to protection - I have spilled my motorcycle on more than one occasion and every time leather has come to my rescue. Sometime I look at the damaged glove(s) which I have stored away and think - 'what would have happened if this was my raw skin?'

So till the time the entire industry finds a suitable replacement for cowhide, I fear that use of leather will be widespread. Since riding gear is based on a functional need and not sentimental needs (like fur/sheepskin jackets), they would not risk switching to something which has lesser protection. Currently there is only one synthetic material which mimics the collagen structure of real leather - Lorica. Boot manufacturer Sidi uses this in most of its boots instead of leather, and I can vouch it feels much better than leather. The rest of the industry should switch to Lorica too, and that alone should make it affordable by virtue of scale. And not for sentimental reasons, but good business and product sense - Lorica is lighter, yields more output in production (since certain parts of cowhide cannot be used) and requires less maintenance.

        What is Lorica?

Although i agree with Abhi on the Topic of killing cows for their skin and hide, but bro, if you are so worried about animal rights, their pain, why just cows? The Mighty indian Rhinoceros, that once roamed Kaziranga, is threatened by poachers, areey wait, the elephant, the Tiger, the Musk deer, you can get pooped and the list would never end!!
I agree these animals feel pain, but tell me, would have we survived?, when humanity had just begun, when we were savages? we had nothing to wear on those cold nights, would have we survived without cattle?
There are animals for human consumption, c'mon we dont wear crocodile skins!!!.....we dont use Rhino horns as hats!...These domesticated animals are our God gifted saviours, you should not feel pity, instead you should thank them for their services to the Human race! If the population of cattle(grazing animals) were to rise, without check, the over-grazing these animals do would result in the depletion of all greenery and vegetation throughout the world! As for the pain these animals are going through, i too am doing my bit to prevent it, for example, i eat only free range, (not captive) chicken meat!...
You can do your bit by developing materials STRONGER than leather, so that the lives of these helpless animals can be saved!

I gun the throttle, the motorbike wails, the forks heave up, the revs climb, my view blurs, air gushes in my lid, muscles tighten, street lights streak. Just another day at work...

I only wanted to say that as far as possible avoid using such things(made from animals).
