    • Hey guys

Am looking at P&S with PASM manual controls for 15k. But all i could find was Canon PowerShot SX150 IS at 10k and Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ20 and Sony CyberShot DSC-HX10V at 17.5k
Nikon Coolpix S9100 and Sony CyberShot DSC-H90 which retail for about 14k? Do these fit my bill? I guess the coolpix does not have any manual controls.
Any suggestions around 15k? Zoom and low light quality with least lag is what i'm looking for.

      Thank you for your inputs

You may try SONY DSC-HX10V or SONY DSC-HX9V. Suggesting from the reviews i went through. Am looking for something less than 15k.

extend your budget by a couple of thousand and nikon p500 would also be there, check out sx20is and sx30is, sx30is would be expensive i guess

If you are okay with 14X Zoom you can go for Canon SX220HS
Increase budget by few hundred bucks.

                  • Feedbacks on Sony DSC-HX30V

                    Hi All,
Planning to buy a Compact Digital Camera and have narrowed down on this.

Sony Cybershot DSC HX30V with 18.2 MP

Any other options in this range or category.
Although budget is not a constraint.
34567 kms and ZMR sold :(

The nikon is nice but at 20k way out of my budget. I want to use the p&s as an intermediary before jumping on to a DSLR. I dont see the point in spending 20k now and again 30k later. And the canon models are no longer available

This canon model is also not available, now there is SX240HS which is a good cam but costs 20k.

I found this. Panasonic Lumix TZ25 for 15k. What do you guys say? Is the service support of panasonic good or I should stick with canon and nikon? thanks for your input guys.

                      • I've had this long term wish to learn photography but certain personal constraints never allowed the same.

I'm not sure at all as to where to start.

First things first; I need a camera.
Should I straightaway head to a DSLR or should I get a PnS first.

Being held up by a strict budget I thought I should get an intermediate cam first (the likes of Sony HX100v sold for about ~22k). Anything above the 25k mark will be out of reach for now.

Also, I have no idea about what photography is.
Is there a place/forum/periodical/online tutorial/book/anything alike where I could learn Photography from scratch??

Someone suggested I subscribe to Smart Photography - the magazine. Any good reviews?

Need all the help I can to learn this long coveted art.

Its always better to go from a intermediate to DSLR. Who knows you might not have time.. you might not have the skills.. there is no point just pointing and shooting with a 30k DSLR and by the time we master the skills, there might be better cameras available.

You have plenty of good choices for <25k bro. Canon SX260, Cybershot HX20v are great.

You dont need to subscribe to any magazine unless you are the magazine reading type. There is enough info online.

All my opinions are from reviews online. I myself am searching for a cam !

Going by reviews looks like a great camera. I like the feature set especially
if budget is not a constraint why not a DSLR?

                            • while comparing cameras, megapixel and zoom is not the only thing to be checked. there are other things far more important-like sensor size etc. go for a camera that allows more manual settings that will help you learn a lot.
