Honestly had been using a Manual DSLR almost TEN years back and sold all my lenses and equipment 3 years ago finally.
    Nikon F80 + Sigma 18-35 + Nikon 24-120 + Nikon 70-300 + Nikon SB-80

Now no more into professional stuffs and becomes unfriendly.
Always bulky and you keep on spending.

Travel friendly and portable is the need of the hour for a Biker boy.

Planned Nikon D3200 initially but shelved it.

hahaha.. that is some set ! Why not try Panasonic Lumix TZ30? Its got good features, its more compact and priced lesser too incase it might concern you. If you want to travel with it then the Cybershot looks hefty.

If portability is a concern then you can consider Canon SX260 and Nikon S9300(which is more friendly to use).

In my experience to shoot while riding you need a cam which fits in your pocket. You mostly miss the moments incase you have to unpack the camera unless its landscape. Hence I use my mobile most of the time.

Currently using Panasonic Lumix FX-520 for almost 4 Years but finding it a tad slow.
Hence the update besides since in a big Family when someone is on Tour the other person is devoid of any Camera.
Compared with all other Cameras as well.
        There are Two Cybershots
        i) DSC HX-200V (This is heavy and bulky)
ii) DSC HX-20V (This is lighter and slim & available in India)
iii) DSC HX-30V (Similar with the above but with Wi-Fi)

Planning the last one from US to be bought this weekend but my Bro will come in Aug-2012.
The nearest one with good value was Lumix DMC ZS20 but with lesser ISO
The Nikon Coolpix S9300 comes with similar ISO but higher Megapixels.
The Canon 260SX260 lost on Battery and ISO as well.
And YES all the Cameras are almost in the same range of 350-400 USD!!!

Checked and compared in the following sites as well.

From what I read all of them face performance issues at high ISO. But for day to day usage it shouldnt be a problem. I would bat for panasonic(size, features) or sony(quality, features). That snapsort website is very nice !

One question for you, how do you find panasonic service backup? Faced any issues in 4yrs of ownership?

          • @yellowspunk: I might not have the time or patience - how realistic.

I think I'll a cheaper compact digicam. If at all I end up keeping the interest, I'll get a dslr.

            Thanx man..really!

Do suggest a good cam say within 15k. Dont wanna unnecessary waste hard earned money for now.

I just read my post, am so sorry ! I dint mean to sound like that.. it was general suggestion not that you dont have time or skills or patience. Sorry again if it offended you. I had a couple of friends who bough DSLRs and just point and shoot cause they dont know the settings that is why I said so. So a step up would help. If you have interest pl go for it.

Yes you pointed correctly the performance at high ISO.
Probably that tilts me in favour of DSC HX-30V.

My touchscreen Lumix have never faced any issue so no idea of Servicing.
Honestly ELECTRONICs item are mostly about luck and till date nothing has happened to other items as well.
May be the problems are afraid to enter our house of Engineers, although I am not.

Of late at times the Card Slot shows error.
With neat and hard press it works fine too.

I had just placed an order for Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ25 and you give me that link which suggests the Sony HX9 to be a better option. Anyway i got a good deal, i dont find much of difference in image quality and i wanted the manual controls which are available in the lumix.

Good to hear that there are no issues with your panasonic. dude its 4yrs old, you cant complain ! lol i placed my order at photovatika.com, very helpful chap, maybe you can try there.

Why are you inclining towards HX30 and not the 20? simply for wifi?

hahaha glad to hear that ! well i was in the same boat. A P&S with manual controls within 15k. Obviously good photo quality is a must. I narrowed it down to Panasonic TZ24, TZ20 and Sony HX9. I chose Panasonic. If you dont want to fiddle around with settings much then you can try Nikon S9100.

If you can extend your budget to 20k you got some great options.

                      You have a PM

200v is a old model man. HX20 is great. check it out here The best cameras

After you choose check out the price @ flipkart, photovatika or smartshopper.

I chose the Lumix cause of the feature set, it matches HX10 but at 2k lesser. The image quality seems to be the same to me.

But i dont get it. Why will someone buy these when there a DSLR is just a step away? You can point and shoot with DSLRs too. My friend got a HX100V for pointing and shooting. I think i will steal it from her.
