  • Guys, need help.

    Budget 10K

    Requirements:
Manual controls and an optical viewfinder.
Was previously looking at SX150, but the optical viewfinder is VERY IMPORTANT for me personally.

I dont think you will find a optical viewfinder in that budget.

I am completely amature when it comes to photography.. And dont know much about the cameras..
So question is which camera to buy ?? Having budget 29k.. And what i should look for in camera.. Is there any good alternative for Dslr?? Is it good to buy Dslr as your 1st camera??

I was in the same soup. If your budget allows go for a DSLR. Cause a manual P&S will never match up to the functionality or the quality available in a DSLR.

But if you are tight on budget or feel you might lose in interest or want to first learn the basics.. then go for a advance P&S.

DUDE, you make contradictory statements, in just two days. So, you changed your opinion that a P&S can match DSLR?

              • Dropping a little note to say that SX150 IS is a peculiar P&S that needs a little different approach than regular (to me S5IS) P&S camera when it comes to taking pictures. At present, I'm able to gauge as how to overcome the shortage of its low distance flash + take rock solid steady images.

Yet to take anything in manual control though.

I dont know what is missing in my post that is not communicating what I actually mean. Okay let me put it this way, within the limits of a car like Nano there isnt much of a difference between it and a C-class in ferrying a person from point A to B ! Got it? Yes a C-class is faster, sexier, smoother, smarter etc etc but coming to the basic functionality of people carrying which is within the capabilities of a Nano, there isnt much difference !!!

how did you overcome the issue? I'm into manual controls but yet to get the hang of adjusting the aperture. Read tons of articles online but still not getting a hang of it. And editing pictures. Do you guys have any suggestions for editing?

                  @Ravi
Any suggestions on editing pictures? It seems only we three are active in this thread lol could find much articles on editing. I use picasa and try using "i'm feeling lucky" but i dont always like the results..

The Nano-Merc comparo somehow doesn't fit here. I would like to say only one thing. Because the P&S has limits, it can't match a DSLR. There is no scope for matching the quality 'within limits'.

I have been using FastStone Imageviewer for the last 3 years, particularly extensively in the last year. Its free and fulfills all your basic editing, including batch processing. I simply love it.

                      • Hello Photographers,
I have decided to get a P&S for me, have owned Nikon Coolpix S7 before. Have narrowed down on the following options:

                        1. Sony DSC HX9V
                        2. Canon powershot sx260 hs
                        3. Panasonic Lumix DMC - TZ25
                        4. Nikon coolpix 9100

Any suggestions to decide on one of the above?

                            • Prices of Nikon D3100 and D5100 slashes.

Prices slashed to 25k for D3100 and 31k for D5100.

The recently launched D3200 holds ground and now is apparently as expensive as the D5100.

A clearance sale for the soon to come D5200 perhaps (?)...
