buddy i am a rookie in photography, so what exactly is ''CHDK''?

and i hav got two AA cells in the box and also 4 Ni-CD rechargable batteries with the charger. i wanted MI-Mh but it was not on the offer list but wil get them soon. Can you please tell me if i can use normal cells or do i need to use duracells or energizer? how many shots wil the normal cell take?

and lastly please tell me tips and tricks so that i can take out the most from the camera.

        regards

        addy
CHDK is a hack for canon cameras, which enables many functions not previously available on stock P&S cameras. Search google for that. But first get comfortable with the camera before experimenting further.

        My few suggestions:
        1. Always keep the grid on the display on, and if you like to print your photos in 4x6, then 3:2 guide as well. Else each time you have to crop the photo and miss important details while printing.

        2. You need good set of rechargable batteries. Go for sanyo eneloop (max shelf life) or else if you can get 2700Mah batteries cheaper, go for those. I got 4 branded 2700MaH battries for 200 from ebay using discount coupon!

        3. Keep the cam in P mode always, and experiment with Av, Tv and M modes. Slowly but surely you'll learn.

        4. Read few articles online to understand basic concept of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Once this triangle gets understood, you'll enjoy photography a lot.

        5. Don't go for generic photos. If you are at Taj Mahal, there are various photos available online for free, clicked from front, which will be perhaps higher in quality than you can ever shoot. Go for different angles.

        6. Investment in a tripod is worth a lot. You can get tripod for as low as 500, and they do the job well (though I know high end tripods are much better).

        7. Make it a habbit to use the handstrap ALWAYS while using the camera. It saved my camera many times to even remember the number!

        8. After clicking many photos, delete the ones which are obviously failures. So when you see the photos on computer, you see less 'failed shots', which improve your confidence!

        9. Photography is something that can be learned, and not necessarily be born with. Read and experiment!

        10. Forgot the most important thing. Always first half click the camera, let it focus and then press full click. This applies in almost all P&S autofocus cameras, Canon, Sony, Panasonic etc. You will get some indication on screen that the camera is focussed, like some green light or green squares on screen. Then only, click fully. The photos will have good focus because of this!

All the best for your journey in photography world! And don't think that you are limited because of the camera. Like bikes, even in photography, the photographer counts for more!

if you want these two then can u specify the reasons behind it?

or is it brand value that you are going after?

i think sx110IS will be better, both the cam have same features, but sony doesnt provide manual focus for h10

my point will be if you are getting a similar performance at a lesser price, going in that direction will be rather a wise decision.thats why suggested the fuji.

Wow! I am surprised you are asking this question to us. You are such an experienced fella .

I guess you will need L lenses to get the most out of it. One question, Do you really need that kinda resolution, the files are gonna be huge and you will need a good computer to handle those huge files, then you also got to think abt the backups and all.

Why not a 50D? It also has got pretty good speed for sports photography, which you do quite a lot now a days.
