yes it is a very very good camera.
it is a bit bulky but that gives it a professional look
the TZ8 looks like a cam for chics
one thing the TZ8 has but the sx130IS doesn't is the wind noise cut option while recording videos.
The sx130 IS uses AA batteries while the TZ8 uses the Li ion battery. The Li-Ion gives more backup but the AA bateries are more convenient (IMO)

are u really getting a tz -8 for ~13 k ?? Last time i found out @ panasonic outlet, they wouldn't give me a TZ 7 for no less than 19k and a tz 8 for 20k and a tz 10 for arnd 22k... is it grey market ur talking about ??Originally posted by eliksir View Postyes it is a very very good camera.

If it is indian with warrenty,go for the TZ -8,or else go for the sony h55,u'll get warrenty for a year and has alsmost similar features as the TZ -8...
in fact it has a bit bigger lcd... TZ - 7,TZ -10 are supirior to the H 55 but not the TZ -8... IQ's are almost same as well...RED BULL did'nt give me WINGS, my BIKE did !!

the TZ-8 is available at around 13-14k MRP and not grey market prices. check again. or check the prices at some site.
In this mid level segment, sony cams sucks balls. so does kodak. Both of them produce poor image quality compared to canon/panasonic. Cybershot has lost its quality. Its good only for the entry level nowadays

Secondly, you cannot go wrong with either camera. There are some minor differences between them which you can read reviews and find out. In the end, you just need to see if you would mind paying extra for the D3100 over the 1000D.
PS: I used dpreview.com to check out revews. Although a bit on the technical side, they are very comprehensive. Also, digital-slr-guide.com has reviews in very simple language.
Happy researching!!!Thanks a lot guys for the reccomendation. I have finally decided on the Nikon D3100. I also check out this site for the reviews and its very informative: Nikon D3100 review: High ISO Noise results, D3100 vs Canon 1000D / XS vs Canon 550D / T2i | CameralabsOriginally posted by Dogg View Postgo for the 3100,it's wayy more advanced than the eos 1000d and the eos 1000d come with a non stabilised lens and also lacks video rec(some might not need it)... but is in the 25k mark and u can also, under the d3100's budget get a 1000d+ 18-135 IS lens for about 15k (u can also sell the standard kit lens) will add upto arnd the same as the 3100.
features wise,u'll loose the new tech in the d3100 over the 1000d,the starndard kit lens with the nikon is vr(image stabilised lens) and is plentiful for a beginner.also the 1000d lacks spot metering (not an issue,u can zoom in the center weighted mode to get the metering right ).The 3100 also packs some good hd vid features and is faster that the 1000d as well..
so the choice is urs... and did i mention u got beter/cheaper range of lenses for the nikon's.....
Happy clicking!

I've used those links only as price indicators. no idea if you can purchase from those sites and if so, no idea if they can be trusted
Try asking in a few stores in your locality. I was quoted 14k in two shops i had asked.

the 5OOD has a slight bump in megapixels...Originally posted by rennycornelius View PostCanon 450D or 500D?
Which one is better?
which wouldn't really make a difference unless u need to make large prints.
it also has HD video... the 45OD doesn't.
if these (+3MP + HD video) aren't features u're looking for...
then i'd recommend u buy the 45OD..

I thought Canon has stopped 450D. The question now should be 500D or 550D...Originally posted by rennycornelius View PostCanon 450D or 500D?
Which one is better?
BTW, this site is giving 10% discount for ICICI customers and appears to be a good deal: Digital Camera - Buy Canon Panasonic Best Digital Cameras
There would be considerable differences between 1000D and 450/500/550D. But, within 450, 500, 550 are with minor enhancements over other. Between these, I would suggest you to decide based on budget. If you are not particular about brand, you can also check Nikon D3100.IBA 47577

They have priced Canon 1000D @ 24K + but in reality, it is available for 22K in the market.
