  • Need Help ! Which DSLR to buy ?

I'm Really confused over which DSLR to buy. Nikon ? Canon ?

I narrowed my choice to Nikon D5100 with 18-105mm Lens.
Then again some pro told me not to go for Nikon (He stated some reasons which I think are bullshit).
Now I'm confused between Canon 1100D and Nikon 5100D.

P.S. I want to save as much as possible, still I won't be buying second hand DSLR (As I'm not going to upgrade it in at least 2-3 years)

      • A heads up for a superb deal. You may know Canon S90, a terrific pocket camera with great photo quality. It used to retail at about Rs.26,000 6 months ago. Now it is being replaced by S95, and hence S90 is on fire sale. Today, futurebazaar.com is having a one day deal of S90 + 7inch digital frame at 9990. This is a great deal IMO, and I have already purchased one.

I am not related to Futurebazaar at all, but thought the budding photographers might want to check out this deal!

S90 is not comparable to usual P&S camera due to its larger sensor size and full manual controls including support for RAW files and AEB etc. Sure you can get similar functionality in other canon P&S with CHDK, but the package is too good to ignore. Sad that you missed the deal. It was a worthwhile camera at 26000, it was much more so at 10k. At 13k, its your call.

Personally I was ready at 13k even, but I was in two minds whether to upgrade from my 6 months old sx120is. At 10k, the price sealed the deal.

              • NEX-5K/B or D3100?

                Hello everyone!

It's Prashant from Pune. I am a hobbyist photographer. I love clicking images. By the critics I got from my Facebook album, I've decided to take it a bit seriously.
I am planing to get myself a real camera. So far I'v been using mostly P&S and occasionally some friend's SLR.
I am yet unable to decide if I like Macro more or Portraits or Nature or something else..
I really need some pro advice for my first real camera. I am kinda short on budget. Rs.2500 to 2800/- max.
I am confused between Sony NEX-5K/B and Nikon D3100.
NEX-5K/B is much more compact and lightweight which is really good for bike trips.
D3100 on the other hand looks more convincing. Plus no need to get the mount adapter. (which is a must if I wanna upgrade from 18-55/18-200 with NEX-5K/B)

So now you know.. Please help me choosing one of these..

                Thanks!

for a lil more money you can get nikon l120 but im not sure which among these is the best...
will have to wait for more responses, and also tell me which one have you decided on and why

If you'd like to add on lenses in the future, the D3100 is a better bet. The Nex-5 is quite capable, but the lenses are expensive and not too compact either (it still uses the APS-C sized sensor similar to other DSLRs)

                      • Guys my dad has this ancient Yashica film SLR camera , the thing clicks the photo but then the film roll just snaps out . Tried getting it fixed , but no avail .

Now , the important thing is it's also got a sigma 80-200mm lens which I would like to put to some use . It is not compatible with any modern camera's but I hear that you can get an adapter for that ? Is that true ?
People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

                          Hi,
I guess this Sigma lens has Yashica mount and to use it with any other camera with an adapter is not worth it. This is because there wont be any auto focus and maybe not even light metering. The old films lenses will not give good picture quality on the latest digital cameras. Also, the Yashica is not worth repairs.

You are right about the bullshit. Both the cameras are good. Buy any one that will cost less. Remember, when buying SLR you are buying into the system. Once you start adding lenses changing the system will be at great loss. If you are not going into professional photography why not buy the mirrorless cameras like Sony NEX or micro 4/3? They are smaller and cheaper and more user friendly and picture quality is as good as DSLR.

                              Hi,
I guess you made a typo mistake on the price. You'll not get above cameras at that price.
If you are not planning into going pro and investing lakhs of rupees in photography, I would recommend NEX 5. And what is this about mount adapter?

Im a beginner in this line...so starting off with buying an entry level P&S for myself...confused between Nikon L24 and Panasonic LS5. I will be using the camera for learning the basics and then would be upgrading in a year or two.
Need a nice entry level cam to start things off
It would be great if i could get some suggestions

                                Thanks!
