  • Guys, Im planning on investing in a Tripod. First point in consideration is it should be cheap!

Whats the budget range that I should be looking at?

Stuff light height adjustment would be a definite plus. If I could get x-y-z plane adjustment it would be a bonanza....

@praful: I have seen some nice ones from Sony here at croma. Cost was about 1950. Looked nice. There were a few other ones from unknown manufacturers that costed around 1250.

Did it have all the stuff like height adjustment and X-Y-Z plane adjustment?

        • @praful: I did not see that...will visit croma this weekend and see whether its available. But the tripod was collapsible and that might mean that there is an availability of height adjustment.
BTW...I am new to photography...can you help me with X-Y-Z adjustment and what it means.
I do not have any SLR but recently acquired a new Canon S5IS to start learnin with

Arre bhai don't travel to the shop just for me!

Even I am new to photography and I am sure I've used a incorrect term, when I said X-Y-Z adjustment, it meant ability to adjust in the X-Y-Z planes, so I can place the camera even at angles to take pics.

I hope you are able to understand me....

Don't mean to sound all kanjoos and all, but anything that below in the sub-2K range, I'm ready to settle for chinese maal too......After all its only a humble P&S sony dsc-w35 that will be sitting on top of the tripod.

Praful, I have bought a tripod of 'Simpex' company, foldable, 4 feet height when extended, quick release mechanism, and x-y-z plane adjustment with spirit level indicator.

Price: Rs.550/- after hard bargain in mumbai manish market. Have been using it now a days. It's is quite light weight, so carrying it is no problem. A good starter's tripod, I say.

Assuming I am explaining this to a LKG guy.
Fill ur bike tank bcoz u have to hunt for bamboo sticks in the city.
Find a bamboo vendor and purchase some sticks.
Carry it home, u need to have a friend as pillion who can hold the sticks till back home.

Come back home, cut three logs from the sticks of equal size and tie them up on top to get a tripod type structure.
Goto kitchen and get a plate or something, put it on the tripod cliff and keep ur camera over that.
                              U are set.

P.S. 20 rupess is to be given to the Bamboo vendor for the bamboo sticks

                                LKG = Loveable Knowledgeable Guru....

Anyways, thanks for ur inputs...please do provide me contacts of some bamboo vendors which you will recommend. Assuming that this bombastic contraption of yours actually worked....

PS: If you do the math its actually around the same cost...how?

                                Here's how:-
                                Bamboo - 20/-
                                Litre of Petrol - 72/- (Speed97)
Lunch for self and friend - 300/- (he will need the energy)
Plate - 50/- (can't risk stealing from kitchen)
Knife for cutting bamboo - 150/- (Need a big sharp one for this)
                                ______________________________
                                Total ---- 592/-

                                (Bahut paka liya.....phew!)
