    Well i have two queries,

    1. I have 1gb ddr2 ram in my pc, and i am planning to put one more 2gb ddr2.

the question here is will it be ok if i put higher frequency 2gb ddr2 ram with the existing one. I mean there should be no compatibility issue right.

Also if you guys can share prices and the correct ram for my pc,
These days compatibility issues are very minimal. u can definitely put a higher frequency RAM with the current RAM, but it will run at the frequency of the slower RAM.

    A 2GB corsair RAM costs about Rs1650

Also in current recession time i will not be able to purchase super expensive graphic cards

    waiting for replies
U need to find out the type of slot u have for grahics.
i think it wil be a PCI-E slot. u can get a ATI 4670 chipset based card for about Rs5000

This might be true theoretically, but practically you can never say. This was not the issue when I did the same thing. I had asked my 1 Gb RAM to be replaced with a 2 GB one. Transcend was the brand that I asked them to put. Since I was not present at the time of replacing at the computer service center, I casually took the PC home. To find out at boot, the computer did not recognise the RAM chips at all.
Later I found out that the repair person had used the 800 Mhz chip. My motherboard (old) was compatible till 667 Mhz chips. Swapped it with the lesser frequency RAMs and they worked.

      • I had previously Transcend 800 Mhz and I had put it on Intel D945G which supports only up to 667 Mhz. In BIOS and it only recognized the 667 Mhz. I ran this config for 2 months with no problems at all. (Then I upgraded to Asus P5Q Pro and G.skill 4Gb= 2x2)
@andy: what is ur budget for gfx card ??

945 Chipset motherboards support DDR2 as far as I know. But the speed of the RAM depends on what model of the motherboard you have.I am guessing it's 667mhz. You can get a 2GB stick for around 1600/-. Try to get Kingston or some other reputed brand if your budget allows you.
Get a Ati HD 4670. Will cost around 4500-5000/-.

I wouldn't suggest putting two RAMs of different speeds in your system.

              • I'm planning to buy a laptop but confused between the Core 2 Duo processor 2.0(T5800) and AMD turion 2.0(both HP)
What is the basic difference between these two? and which one is better for future
                its all about CC...

My suggestion would be to stick with the core 2 duo processor.. In general the newer intel laptop cpus + chipsets give better power performance than AMD also overall speed of the core 2 duo should also be better..

                    AMD any time for me.
Few things I'd consider about a Proc+Chipset combo:
                    Heating issues.
                    Driver availability for Linux

If you intend to run Linux the latest specs in the market are overkill.
If Windo$ gaming, go for the latest config. These latest laptops are what enterprise work stations were 2 yrs ago!
and which one is better for future
If gaming, the games get progressively HW hungry. The HW becomes obsolete even before you purchase it! As for regular home/enterprise use, it should be good enough for atleast 5 years.

Read: Games = graphics intensive CAD/CAM/CAE, 3D animation, Video edits. Sound processing? its a different ballgame.

I assembled a PC 3 years ago. It's an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939 proc. Still going great. am not abreast with latest tech. know-how a bit rusty here.

Even though I am a hardcore AMD-Ati fan but in the case of mobile computing nothing beats Intel. Sure you will get the AMD variant a lot cheaper than the Intel one but the brute force of Core 2 Duo cannot be matched to the Turion X2. Also Intel has better battery life.
Get the Intel one if your budget allows you.Else AMD wont disappoint either.
Another thing that is the deciding factor is the graphic chipset. Look for a HD3200 or anything above.

Here's a config in the same price that would be double as fast as the one you posted.
                            Processor: Intel E8400 ~9k
                            Motherboard: Gigabyte G31-S2L ~2.4k
                            RAM :Transcend 2x2gb ddr2 800 ~2k
Hard Drive: Seagate sata II 7200.12 500gb ~3k
                            Graphic Card: Sapphire HD4850 - ~9.5k
                            PSU: Corsair VX450 - ~4k
Total:29900/- and you still have leftover for a decent cabinet and a sound card.

P.S.: DDR2 is better than the others.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion guys!!I know C@D are in the favorite list of consumers but lately I heard lot of appreciation of AMD too but wasn't able to compare with C2D.

Yes AMDs are good. But their superiority is limited to desktop processors. On the mobile front Intel is still the biggie.
And the first option is a lot better for you. An AMD coupled with a 9200M will perform better in games/HD movies/graphic design than the Intel with that lousy chipset.
