a quick question: what are the pros and cons of using intel and amd?

i have heard AMD's are much much better in terms of performance. but it has heating issues and dont hold good in the long run. true ?

bro AMD's heating issues are history !!

i have been using a AMD turion64 x2 on my lappy for the past 3 and half years.
and all i had so far is surprisingly great performance compared to the best intel can offer in the even the latest of its laptops.

Its amazing what it can do with just 512 mb of ram. i'm saying it loads and makes playing games of the level of NFS undercover look easy. !!

True, AMDs don't get heated much these days. But intel processors have regained their advantage with superior L2 cache with their latest mobile processors.

Need to upgrade my PC

Hey guys,

I need to upgrade my PC. My ASUS A8N-E already shorted one RAM Slot out of the 4 and now one other I think is lost. Seeing lots of BSoD's related to MEMORY_MANAGEMENT And IRQL these days. Its been 5 years since my upgrade anyways. I have finalised on the following 3 configs. Ur ideas and suggestions are more than welcome:

1. INTEL WAY

Q9650 - ~15k
Gigabyte P45 UD3P - ~9k
2x2 GB RAM - Depends on the kit; (3.2k and above)
Antec Earthwatts 650 - ~5.5k

2. AMD WAY

Phenom X4 940 Quad Core-3.0GHz 12975 or the X3
OCZ Gold DDR2 800 Mhz - 2GB*2 - 1500*2 -- 3000 or Gskill Pi's
Jetway | Biostar 790 Gx for 6k or Asus M4A79 Deluxe ~12k
HX 620 or Antec Eartwats 650 W 5k-6k

3. i7 way

i7 920 - 15K
Gigabyte DS4 --> 14,800
Gigabyte UD5 --> 17K
RAM - will have to decide
PSU can wait.

I am very new to this actually, i had a very old computer earlier, just now got a new one. but coz of financial probs could not get a great pc...

that is the reason i was thinking to upgrade ram and graphic card so that i can play good games.

You are not going for a graphic card? Or does it have a separate budget?
The third option would be the fastest(and hence the most expensive) one but if I were you I would go for the first option. Money saved from the Proccy+Mobo can be used for a better Graphic card. Like an 4870 toxic edition or maybe 4870x2 if your budget allows.
You on TE? You can get a pair of G Skill PI black from KMD. I read they are going for a group order again at Rs 2900 for 2x2GB DDR 800.

I already have a 4850 graphics card, a CoolerMaster 600W PSU, 500GB HDD and a DVD-RW. So omitted them. Am on TE as well.
