  • LED Indicators for Activa

My first DIY post - LED INDICATORS FOR Activa (Old Model)

Here is what I have done using LED to my Activa's Indicator lamps, not only is it bright, its a total power saver.

Though LED bulbs are available (as searches show on the internet) its difficult to procure them atleast here in Vadodara Gujarat, so decided to design from scratch using LEDs and other components available in the market.

    THINGS REQUIRED:

    1. 15 Ultrabright White LED's per cluster.
    2. Resistors: 100 ohm 2 watt. (Calculating led resistance i used this site http://www.hebeiltd.com.cn/?p=zz.led.resistor.calculator)
    3. General Purpose PCB to mount the LED's, resistors and diode on.
    4. One Diode to prevent reverse current damaging the LEDs - on the positive terminal (refer circuit)
    5. Soldering Iron, Soldering wire, Soldering Flux, 2 Pin relimate connector to make the connections clean, and the circuit easy to remove.
    6. Wire stripper / cutter to cut component leads.

    Setting things up
Mount the LED's on the PCB as you desire. I did it the following way.
    ">
    ">
Figure out how you are comfortable soldering the LED's on the PCB. Do not heat the LED leads too long, doing so may damage the LEDs.

I have not yet installed on my activa. Will post pics once installation is done.

        Dear Sandeep,

This circuit replaces your stock bulb which is 21W x 21W (Front &Rear). This circuit does not require additional flashing circuit as it will flash using the activa's flasher circuit.

            Led Indicators

            Hi,
Today tried testing the indicators, but they dont seem to blink . I am guessing that the load is inadequate for the turn relay to operate.

Need to work around this issue now.

That is the exact reason why I asked for a circuit.
For flashing you can use 555 timer circuit coupled with an amplifying transistor.

Thanks Sandeep and sorry for my earlier assumption that this will directly work - i was wrong .

Nice initiative, however, should consider putting a Load Resistor on the circuit. Something like THIS

Thanks for your reply Philip. I am considering all options and most probably go for 555 based timer + relay.
I did check out the load resistor option, but are they available locally .

Try an electronic 2-pin or 3-pin flasher..

My first choice would be electronic flasher. Can you help me find one ? I am not able to get one here in Vadodara, gujarat.

Anyone manufacturers these in india or we need to get from abroad ?

Flasher for LED Indicators - Updated Circuit

Have added an updated circuit at the above post in Lighting section.
Am also posting the same here with a video of flashing circuit.

Do you really need that diode before the relay?

                              Hi Abhijeet,

We need a diode at pin 3 because the NE555 timer chip can be damaged by reverse polarity voltage being applied to it. You can make the circuit goof proof by placing a diode in series with the relay.
