  • D.I.Y - Engine Oil change on Apache RTR

    Hi everyone, I have made my first D.I.Y on changing the engine oil of apache RTR along with oil filter.

    TOOLS AND STUFF REQUIRED::

    Engine Oil

    Oil Filter

    8mm T spanner

    17 mm Spanner

    Another 17mm Spanner (dont know the exact name)

    Plastic Tub

    A Funnel

    Procedure::

    1.Warm the engine by riding the bike in city for around 5-10 kms.

    2. Stop the bike and put it on the main stand

    3.locate the engine oil drain bolt under the engine.

    4.Loosen the drain bolt with help of the 17mm spanner. Make sure u use it by fixing it exactly over the bolt otherwise , the threads of the nut will go kaput.

    5.Place the Plastic tub under the engine and open the drain bolt completely.Let the oil drain completely and leave it aside for 5 mins.

    6. Open the Oil filter cover with help of the 8mm spanner. Unscrew the 3 nuts.

    7.Take out the old oil filter with the help of a nut or a plier.

    8.Dispose the old oil filter

    9.Clean the area with a cloth.

    10.Take the new oil filter and place it in the space.

    11. Fix the cover back with the help of a 8mm spanner. Do not over tighten the nuts but make sure that the nuts are all tight.

    12. Take the drain bolt and fix it back under the engine with the help of a 17mm spanner. Note:- Do not over tighten the Nut and try to do it in a way in which the nut dosent gets damaged.

    13. Open the engine oil filler cap with a plier and keep it aside. Fix the funnel there.

    14. Fill the engine oil , keep holding the funnel. After completely filled ,place the filler cap back in there and lock it tightly with a plier.

    15. Here u are done, switch the bike on and before riding leave it on idle for abt 2-3 minutes and ride slowly for 2-3 kms for the oil to get along with the engine parts.

    Recommended OIl Grade for Apache RTR is XXw40 and some good brands are shell, motul, veedol, yamahalube etc.

      This is my first oil change so its maybe a very stupid question.....shouldn't there be some kind of an oil seal on this nut when we put it back to prevent oil from leaking....if there is from where do we get it??

        There is a soft metal washer to prevent oil leak.
        Washer must be replaced as it gets compressed and seals but we dont replace it until it leaks

                It is always better to replace the oil filter when replacing the oil. The cost of a new oil filter is just 40 bucks so it should not bee too much of a hassle.
