  • Pulsar 200NS: Changing stock pilot lamps to LEDs

I will take the pleasure of posting the first Pulsar 200NS D.I.Y thread. Be sure it's just one of the first in series of some hardcore electronic mods.

Changing stock pilot lamps to LEDs

Pulsar 200NS uses 5W, 2No.s pilot bulbs in the "gotee" style arrangement. Though the stock bulbs looks fine, LEDs look even more "uber" cool and save some watts here and there. So here we go.

    (1) Pulsar 200NS have the most easy access, pilot and head lamp arrangement. Locate the Pilot bulbs on the either side of the head assembly.

    (2) Pull the rubber socket out, be careful not to pull by the wires.

    (3) The replacement LED should be "wedge" type. It's easily, available at the shops or online.

    (4) Pull the stock bulb out and stuff the LED in the socket. LED will only glow, if they are inserted in correct polarity. So, In case the LED doesn't glow, just try removing the LED and inserting back by changing the side of the wedge.

    (5) Switch on the bike and the lights, and check if the LEDs are glowing.

    (6) Push the rubber plugs back into socket, firmly into place. Make sure it remains water tight.

    (7) Tada!

      RED LEDs looking killer

Thanks for this one, can we opt for other color LEDs instead of RED?

How much did each LED bulb costed you, any particular brand to opt for, can u post a pic of bike parked in dark - it will give more clarity on density of LEDs.
You must be the change you wish to see in the world

The bikes looks sexy.. Want to do it right away.. But worried about Loosing the warranty part..
Can you throw some light on the consequences of doing it?
Can we put the old bulbs while going for service and they would not get to know ?
ATGATT! There are many wonderful riders/drivers out there who would intrude in your riding space without any notice. Be prepared. Stay Safe.

Bajaj does not generally create problems due to such small mods. Rest I have PMed you.

There's no law pertaining to pilot lamps. And I have never heard of cops catching somebody for the pilot bulbs. These are 250/- a pair.

These are generic Chinese made LEDs. No particular wattage, but they come with inbuilt resistors for 12V and the number of LEDs can vary for each bulb. There are more brighter ones also available.

                  On Ebay

                  I tried this on ZMA
                  Brought it from Ebay.
I don't think local store will have big price difference.

2x5 White LED Sets costs INR220/
2 pcs. T10 5 SMD 5050 LED Bulb 12 Volt DC Indicator, Parking, Pure White Light | eBay

2x8 LED sets avialable in RED,BLUE,GREEN Costs INR 285/-

Green T10 8SMD 1210 3528 Car LED SMD Indicator Light Interior Bulbs Lighting12V | eBay

4LED ones are cheap but, I doubt the power/ Brightness of it.

I doubt the warranty issues of the bike if you use it.

And the COPS wont tell any thing since its not producing power less than 15Watts

Ebay Rule: Cross check the Seller [Feedbacks] before placing the order.

There is one with 28 LEDs

2x28 LED sets available in White Costs INR 400/-
                  2 X White 28 SMD LED T10 W5W 501 194 168 Car Side Light Sidelight Bulb 12V New | eBay

But looks like its not suitable for bike.

                    Great post RD!!
Now, after looking at the post, It seems so simple to do. Am sure gonna try it.
I guess there will be NO warranty void, since there is no cutting/splitting of wires.

Now will wait for the big picture (the trailer of which is already shown)

@RahulDevnath sir, thanks for the DIY instructions for changing to led pilots. With all due respect, I believe these type of leds, with bulbs on the sides provide better illumination.

Followed the tip and changed myself. Bangloreans can go to jc road and lights costs you 100per pair of leds. Also confirmed from bajaj showroom that it doesnt void warranty.

                            Is it illegal ?

I was in Delhi and No Policeman never question'd me for the red parking light.
Even I had the full blue / Red Neons all over the bike which made my bike shine blue / red in night and even then no-one said anything.

In mumbai a policeman said "I'll charge you 1000rs fine for the Laser Light (lol), first show me your paper"
Though after a bit of argument over my papers (I'm in mumbai but no NOC) he forget about light.
But can he charge me fine ?

First I was Scared But then We Made a Deal

                              Hello,

The parking lights that you have used seem to be 6-7 SMD LED bulbs.

Could you please elaborate on the amount of Power that it consumes in Watts.(Eg: 5 SMD = 1 Watt, etc).

I am asking this question because i'm running a pair of 10 SMD LED parking bulbs on my NS,and I was a bit worried about the total Wattage of these LED's crossing the stock 3 Watt per bulb Wattage, cos that would be foolish considering the fact that you have replaced your stock 3 Watt bulbs with powerful LED's that consume more Power than your stock bulbs.
