    You cannot drain from below. You need to drain from top cover bolt. And refill 10ml less.

        Please tell me exact amount of oil in FZS forks. Is Bajaj fork oil good enough for the purpose? any other recommendations are highly welcome.

          As per the FZS Service manual, the fork oil per fork is 459ml. You can use Motul, Endurance(Bajaj) or HP. They come in 350 ml and 175 ml bottle.

          I Used a measuring jar to get the correct amount of fork oil in each forks.

            Is Using 459 ml of motul 20w fork oil safe for smooth operation?
            I think that's too much oil per leg. Any personal exp.

              There is no problem if you fill 459ml/leg of motul 20W fork oil. I have done the same and is butter smooth like it used to be when you first purchased the bike.The fork diameter(40.00mm) is bigger when compared to normal bikes hence requires more fork oil.

                  Fork is one of the most important part of the vehicle. During deceleration/braking, the full weight of the bike is transferred to front forks which in turn dampens itself and reducing the impact of the braking.

                  Ill effects of overfilling:
                  1. The very purpose of forks are defeated as there will be very high resistance due to excess oil and the dampening effect will be very less.
                  2. The ride will become very bumpy.
                  3. Full impact will be passed on to the tyres in-turn the spokes/ alloy wheel.
                  4. The ride height will go up.
                  5. Very dangerous in high speed as the forks will not react to any potholes. Which can throw you off balance.


                  Ill effects of underfilling:
                  1. The ride will be extra soft.
                  2. The ride height will go down.
                  3. When braking the forks will depress fully and will be very dangerous as the handling will become difficult.

                    Hi XBHPians,

                    Recently my Yamaha FZ16 front fork oil seal was leaking.
                    So, I took my bike to a nearby local mechanic.He changed the seals as well as changed Fork oil in both the front forks.

                    He filled 350ml of Motul 20w fork oil in each fork. But, later while going through Yamaha FZ Thread i got to know that the correct fork oil quantity should be 459ml.
                    Is there any way i can fill 109ml more without disassembling the whole setup?

                    There is a disturbing loud noise whenever I go through any big pot hole. Mechanic is not willing to admit his mistake, he is telling me there is no problem with oil quantity and advising me to change the suspension springs which are inside !.

                    Please tell me if there is a way i can just open the top bolt, pour some oil? will it work.
                    Don't want to shell out 200 rs again for fork servicing in some other service center.

                          Just filled additional 159 ml by removing the top nut.
                          It was easy to remove but little tough to put it back on due to upward pressure exerted by spring which was inside.

                          Forks are perfect now. No more noise.
