          Sodium Bicarbonate is a good Rust removing agent. We all had read it. You applied it.
          The only time that makes me tension free is when I ride my wheels

            A well maintained bike's sprocket will not rust because it will get a cover of grease or oil applied regularly on chain. AFAIK sprockets requires no maintenance apart from lubrication.
            You can also simply wash it with detergent and scrub it. That's ok.
            What is the use of doing it on a worn out sprocket?

              i found this old rusted sprocket lying in my shelf. i was looking for something that has rusts to demonstrate rust removal steps.
              here sprocket is a piece of metal that has some rusts.
              same applies to metal objects like coins, silverware, jewelry, etc.

                Hi Bhibu, this will be helpful if the rust is only a very fine layer. If the rust is deep and has reached the steel surface underneath, removing it will expose the steel with pit marks.

                  I removed surface rust from my RX100's exhaust using coke, I am not sure if its a recommended method so try it at your own risk Steps:
                  1. Pour coke on to the rusted portion of the chrome surface.
                  2. Leave it to react for sometime, I left it for few hours.
                  3. Now pour some coke again and gently scrub the rusted part using a crushed aluminium foil.
                  4. Wash the dirt off and clean it with a dry cloth.

                  Do note that the above method can be used for only small surface rust.

                    It is also possible to remove rust by putting the part in vinegar for a few hours. Vinegar being a mild acid (ascetic acid) it will dissolve all the surface corrosion and rust. But check often and don't overdo it!! I have used this method whilst refurbing my Lotus with good effect.

                      Even engine oil removes rust in the same above method. Just apply engine oil on the rusted surface. Soak it for 1 hour. Then gently brush with a toothbrush or sand paper. I have used this method to remove surface rust on my bikes wheel rim !
