• Mudguard/flap Extension - Benelli TNT 300

This DIY is specific to all Benelli TNT 300 users.

Problem : The default mudguards are not exactly what I would call adequate, specially in the rains in India. The radiator upfront gets caked in mud, clogging the fins and making it a pain to clean. Other than being dirty it is also a threat to run the bike with improper cooling. The rear mud guards too do not help much. It covers the rear seat or the pillion's back in muck. The sub frame also gets caked in mud, and with a pillion sitting, the thighs would be dirty in no time. Regular rubber mud flaps look out of place and did not gel well with the over all design of the bike.

What you need:

1. Standard tools - The tool set that comes with the bike should be enough. Additionally you would need a scissor and a smaller Hex Key (Allen Key). You would need Zip Ties. Around 5 should be enough. 3M Two Sided Tape.

2. 4 BTwin Mudflaps - You can get them in any Decathlon Store. If there isn't a store in your city, you can get them at their online store too.
You may use any other alternative too, I prefer these as they are sturdy and easily available.

Open the Bolts within the Red Circle. There are 4 large bolts and 2 smaller ones. Be very careful while sliding out the mudguard from between the shockers. You may need to squeeze the black rear part for it to come out smoothly. Recommend to put a cloth between the mudguard and shocker to avoid scratches to either.

Open the screw marked in red above. Please note the stock HEX Keys (Allen Key) would not fit this one. You would need a smaller one. You can get it at most hardware stores. I am assuming you would already have the tools handy.

The Clip Nut shown in red above is the mount point for the front extension flap. You can use the pre cut holes for the same. It is a direct fit almost.

This is how it would look once fixed on the mudguard. You would notice that the mud flap has two wings that jut out from the sides. They need to be trimmed and end result would look like below.

Apply 3M two side adhesive tape as below. This would help get a nice curved finish.

Fix the front mudguard back. The end result on the bike would look like following. As you would notice the bike color is different here. Using these photo's as they are clearer.

Please Note : There are 4 small washers where the 4 main bolts of the mudguard go in. They are very easy to loose. So be careful. They are fixed from the inside the mudguard. These are specially meant to sit in the mudguard grooves.

I am unable to attach more pictures in this post hence will give details of the rear mudguard in the next post.

Thread Approved

You can attach more pictures in one post. You just can't do it at one time. If you try again, you will be able to.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Rear Mudguard/flap Extension - Benelli TNT 300

Continuing from the previous post. Below are the details of how to extend the rear mudguard. Please note that the tools and items required are already mentioned in the beginning of the post.

Rear Mudguard

You need to detach the rear mudguard from the bike. It is held in place using 4 bolts. You can see them under the mudguard. I have marked them in red in the below image.

You can use one of the allen keys available in the stock tool kit for the same.

Please make note of the 3 set of cables you would need to disconnect. Remember to attach them back when you finish the job. They are color coded and should be easy to reconnect.

Once detached the mudguard unit would look like below. You can put 3M two sided tape at the places marked in red in the below picture.

You would need to use zip ties to fix the mudflaps in place. The two on the sides would need some trimming to fit seamlessly. The one used in the center here will be given slight slits so that it locks on to the side flanking mudflaps. The images should be self explanatory.

The side flanks are fixed first.

The center flank is fixed later. Ignore the color. It is just to make it easier to understand.
Before you fix the bottom zip ties, you can add some 3M tape below the center flank to make it more robust.

After that you would need to fix it back. Ensure the wires are connected properly. The end result would look something like the following. (kindly ignore the bucket behind the bike)

This is Akhi 's bike. So far my bike has been tested in heavy rains and also in pressure washes. These extensions have held good and worked well.

Re: Mudguard/flap Extension - Benelli TNT 300

Outcome :

The front extension works wonders and the radiator is clean even after long rides in rain and dirty roads. It also helps that no stones or small pebbles are getting thrown at the radiator. A much better solution than putting a Rs. 5k radiator grill which would in turn restrict airflow. Cost for front Rs. 199 + some strips of 3M two sided tape. Effort - 20 Minutes.

The rear extensions are good. The amount of muck thrown by the tire from the sides onto the thighs of the pillion has reduced. The rear works fine till the speeds of 80. Above that you start getting slight splashes on the pillion or the pillion seat. Cost for Rear : RS. 600/- + 5 Zip ties + some strips of 3M two sided tape. Effort - 45 Minutes.

Hi Binil,

Great innovative mod. I have done the same for my Pulsar RS200 (Front mud guard). The mud flap doesn't look like mod, it is like stock. I removed 'Btwin' logo by using diesel. At rainy season it works great. Big thanks for this thread.

Guys, the FENDER FLASH MTB FR BLACK is no more available with Decathalon. Nor did I find it in their store, nor on their website. Any clue as to anything else that can be used instead. Some thing that will look as good as this.
