Accessories required:
Tools:
- 12.00mm socket
- Hammer
- Nose plier or cutting plier
- 3.50/3.00 mm rod.
- Water pump plier
- Tooth brush for cleaning.
Process:
- Remove the 2 holding bolts using a 12.00mm socket
- After removing the bolts carefully remove the brake assembly from the disc pad.
- Remove the locking pin using a nose plier or a cutting plier.
- By using a 3.00 mm rod( I used a 3.00mm allen key) and a hammer gently tap the brake pad holding rod. The rod is locked by a spring clip at the end.
- Now remove the floating holder for cleaning purpose.
- The main unit looks like this without the floating holder.
- Now using the water pump plier slowly push the pistons inside.
- Push the piston till it is fully flush with the surface.
- Use a soft tooth brush or a brake cleaner to remove all the dust from the callipers.
- Apply Silcone grease on both the sliding pins. Now assemble the floating holder.
- Now assemble the new brake pads and insert the locking pins also.
- Now push the brake pads apart so that it can be easily fitted on the disc rotor.
- Tighten the bolts and rotate the wheel and apply the brake and see if it functions properly.
- Comparison between the old and new pads.
Notice how one pad is wornout more than the other pad. I found out that one of the bolt were not tightened to the required torque. Well it is a royal Enfield. We expect such things to happen


. - Test ride the bike and see how it feels. It will be slightly spongy for about 20 to 30 kms and then the bite will be good.
Warning: Do not depress the brake lever when the brake calliper is removed. It will push the pistons beyond return and brake fluid leakage is also a possibility.
